The project file was originally almost 272MB; and after saving in 8.1.1 it's down to 43MB.
Checking through briefly it seems that all is there (it's 170 tracks and over 2 hours, so can't say yet for sure)...Still this raises the question:
Is this size economization to be expected? Is it a feature or a bug?
Thank you for any insights....

Thank you for the reply...However, If I do that, it will grow to far larger than 272MB! Probably more like 3GB...So that's not the answer. I'm only referring to the Live project file itself, not the associated folders or files referenced elsewhere...

well, i finished the track in 8.1.1 today, with no problems what so ever. windows 7, 64bit OS. i was experiencing a lot of troubles with 8.1, but all seem to be fine now. i've used external instrument, lot's of effects, not so many VST isnstruments, though, and everything went smoothly.
just thought i should post my experience as well...
so, as far as i'm concerned, GOOD JOB ABES!

I'm having some problems with all MIDI peripherals dropping out at once and not responding until I restart Live. The problem is that it's quite hard to reproduce: sometimes it won't happen at all, sometimes it'll happen almost immediately and sometimes it happens after an hour or so. I never had this problem with previous releases (I've updated from 8.0.9)
These MIDI devices are the Akai APC40, Akai MPD24, Emu Xboard 25 and Motu Midi Express 128. The APC40 will just freeze and not respond to anything (previous arrangement buttons will be lit). All other devices will broadcast their stuff as usual but this is not registered by Live.
Apart from updating Live to 8.1.1 I also added a Motu UltraLite MK3 Hybrid to my setup, so that might also be cause of the problem. I suppose I should try without it, but then I won't hear anything and maybe this problems have been documented yet. Any suggestions?

was having an issue yesterday for about an hour in a good sized project, in session view, where I was trying to duplicate a track and apply some fx to the duplicated track, then play the original and duplicate tracks at the same time, when I would hit play on one of the duplicated clips, the program would crash.
eventually I tried unplugging my launchpads (2) and nocturn, and the crashes quit.
once I got the processing I wanted to do on the duplicated tracks finished, I re-plugged my usb devices and all worked fine.
mac osx 10.5.8, 4gb ddr3, 2.66 intel core 2 duo
digi002 rack, 2 launchpads, nocturn, and bcr2000

Hello,
I’m having problems when I start working in the arrangement view. Live start crashing continually.
This happens in live 8.1 and 8.1.1.
When I’m working in the session view I can work the whole day and everything is fine maybe 1 crash,
But when I start arranging my song and do some basic editing live crashes every 5 minutes.
I already send a crash log.

Should the live 8.1.1 patch be installed over the top of live 8.0.1, or should it be installed in a new directory like live 8.1.1?

I have just upgraded from the 'Ableton Live Lite Akai Professional Edition' (of which came free with my Akai APC40) to the 'Ableton Live 8 Akai Professional APC Edition' and the problem is that it does not allow me to authorise the edition so I can save and export my work. The information box suggest that support for live intro and live lite will be available in the next update.
Will this next update allow me to use the Live 8 to its full extent or will I need to purchase Live 8 via the website?

read the last line first:
I don't really think it's called an upgrade...?
anyways.. if it doesn't export/save.. it's in demo mode..
so maybe you're running the demo instead of the edition you want to run
also (I think) you need to open a user .. to register..
anyways.. if you don't figure it out contact Ableton support.

If i start my own project again wich have aqual cpu use it crashes every 5 min.
I also made a copy to a new live set but again live crashes every 5 min.

Ableton Support Response Email wrote:There seems to be a misbehavior of the software which causes pointing to 8.1.1 as latest update. However, this is not true for this version. Please download the latest installation file for Live Lite which is 8.0.10:
http://www.ableton.com/downloads/downlo ... y=U_Lite80
Our apologies for any inconveniences this might have caused.
Please also uninstall 8.1.1 as it definitely can't be used together with Live Lite 8 licenses.
All our installers are complete versions and do not require any previous version.
So, you don't have to but you definitely can uninstall previous versions without affecting your current one.
So basically, if you have an APC40 with the free ableton lite, don't upgrade to the 8.1.1 version as it is not supported.

im not sure - i had the same issue, and i had to uninstall the lite version, then install the full version.
i.e. you cant have 2 types of live installed at the same time.
Dont have an APC but it did cure all the crashing issues i had.
Would be worth a try
Interestingly, i got exactly the same response from ableton support, word for word! Thought it sounded a bit unpersonal

Hi alexposada,
Is is possible that you have more than one Ableton account (perhaps for a Live Lite version and and full version?)
If you're logged in as a different user (with a different set of licenses) and attempt to authorize, you may end up authorizing a different set of add-on products.
Best,
