But no nicotine!

I admire you guys that have the common sense and willpower to give up smoking.

I for one have never understood how anyone who has any knowledge of the damage it does to one's body could possibly do that to themselves. I probably unfairly equate "smoker" with "unintelligent."

But I for one am looking forward to a ban here in England on smoking in public places, just like they've done in Ireland.

No cigarettes means no more music gear and clothes smelling like an ashtray after a gig. And more cash for gear & upgrades, too!

It's a win-win for everyone.. health system included.. except the tobacco and pharmaceutical companies.

what you goin on about you great wazzock
you wanna become like america ????
thats the problem with this stinking cess pool
its becoming more like those fascists every day
(scuse me - the government i mean)
like e.g. that guy who got no less than 7 bullets in his head at point blank range the other day...
see that is a sign we are becoming more like america...
that police think they can get away with this...
and then they try and do what bush done with 9/11 etc.. etc..
seen it all before
increase the climate of fear
reduce liberties
boost economy with military..
totally see through the whole thing...
predicted the whole thing would happen before the iraq war started..
we will lose our identity and everything will have a pound sign on it..
markets and economics will rule
we have to stop governments intruding on peoples lives
smoking is not unintelligent
smoking is an addiction..
and even the most intelligent among us can have an addiction...
innit? even someone as utterly awesome as myself...
people have a right to be free...
liberty n all that
what the founding fathers of america once said
wheres all that gone now huh ??
oh is it a more hostile environment now ??
NO well it wasnt anyway till they went to a strange country and blew the fuck out of 100,000 - its all BS - the media are in tow...
shit i need a fag...
later 8) hehehehe

Hey guys. Keep it up, we're all behind you. It's not easy, but don't give up. Even if you slip up, never quit quitting!

I've quit a few times. Sadly, I picked it back up again, so now have to go through the whole process again. However, here's a few tricks I've learned when giving up in the past (and they DO work, even though I violated the last rule and thus am back in this sorry state):

1) When you really want that cig, imagine as strongly as possible having it. Go through the steps in your mind. Imagine yourself taking a cig out of the pack. Feel it in your fingers. Imagine putting it into your mouth. Feel it there. In your mind, light it up. Take that first drag. And IMAGINE IT TASTES LIKE THE WORST THING YOU CAN THINK OF. Try to imagine it so strongly that you can almost really taste the nastiness. Make it taste nastier than even real cigarettes do, so nasty that the thought of continuing makes you sick. And then stub the imaginary cigarette out. (I've found that your mind will try to trick you when you want a cigarette, and you'll start to think about how good it will be. In reality, cigarettes don't taste good at all, really. This trick will help you get past the tricks your cravings will try and pull on you).

2) There is no such thing as "just one cigarette". After you've been smoke-free for a while, you'll start to think "Hey, I kicked it! I can smoke 'just one cigarette' and it won't hook me! Hey, can I bum one off of you..." WRONG. That one cigarette will be the first in a new chain of dependency. It contains nicotine, and nicotine is what ropes you in. Don't do it. When you've quit, VOW to yourself that you will never again smoke even one. Cigarette-free means no more cigarettes, ever. EVER. You aren't missing out on anything by never smoking another cigarette - you aren't denying yourself anything by not smoking, you are denying yourself a good life BY smoking. Trust me, this is the ONLY way to truly stop. I broke this rule last time. And I'm smoking again. Grrr. When that "just one cigarette" phrase pops into your head, and it will, stop right there and don't do it. You'll be glad you didn't.

My teeth is one reason also.
Had to pay like 3000 $ for a tooth that was kaput last year. Insane money. Had to take a lone to make it over christmas.

I think this is day 5 here - gimme 5!

... but I drink to much...

Coming to this thread late, necause I haven't been browsing the forum as much lately, but I'm really glad to hear that all you guys are quitting smoking! The drummer in my band quit about 2 months ago, after years of a heavy duty habit, and the change is amazing. He has so much more energy now, and is so much healthier. It makes me want to start smoking so I could quit and feel as good as he does :-)

I bought a lap, Acer Aspire, for money to be saved by staying of nicotine.
But I'm not sure the savings will be that great, because now I want to eat every hour!

No coffee - you are NUTS!

Good for you!
I did the same when I went from cigarettes to wet tobacco:
Had a beer. OK. Had a hamburger and coffee, still OK. Let the cigs go to a trash bin. Had some more beer and then a good, dark rum in a nice dark place.
It worked, the test was done!
