well at the very least, i give you credit for backing up the things you say. considering our US politicians who talk all this smack would not do the same, at least you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

whether or not i agree with your politics is a topic left for a time when you are back safely.

i have a friend who is in kabul on a humanitarian mission at the moment, and she is in love with the afghani people, so hopefully this will also increase your understanding of the people there and give you new experiences to reflect upon.

but i still pray that killing is something you do not have to do.

be safe.

I was talking to a CNN camera man in London once (an old school friend is an online editor there) and he was sensitively referring to the people of Afghanistan as "animals"

That sentiment doesnt surprise me at all coming from a CNN employee though

This is a really good thread - the story of m breqs, dj gone soldier is compelling, and the reactions are pretty well thought out as well as varied:

Every hijacker was Saudi Arabian, not Afghan. Osama's money, and the funding for the attack was Saudi. If this was a just war, Saudi Arabia should have been invaded before, or at least along with, Afghanistan.

Iraq as constructed by the British in 1932 is not a nation particularly, which is why only some people there take pride in the accomplishments of the soccer team. The west, and Britain in particular, is to a large degree responsible for current events in places like Iraq and Rwanda as it was the British who drew the boundaries around these 'nations', often for politically expedient reasons. Afghanistan still does not acknowledge the British made boudary between it and Pakistan.

it is definitely not so easy to say from where the money is coming since terrorists have a bank account...

in afganistan.
one worse thing is the drug business.

I'll be posting updates on Afghanistan on another thread so as to clear up space on this one.
