consider this... when Trent released his first album, MW was a teenager soaking it all in, listening to Trent's contemporaries as a music fiend, as we all are music fiends. you're a 20 year old reading about history, he lived it. when Pretty Hate Machine was released you were shitting your diapers, sucking your momma's tit.
a year from now you'll look back at your 'bad ass' sophomore self and laugh. actually you probably are headed into your second year, you're just a freshman FFS.
for not going into a lot of detail you sure do go into a lot of detail.
if you don't play an instrument and you cannot speak the language of music. If you are musically illiterate, you cannot verbalize what reason you have for disliking a musician other than, it sounds "pop," or "you like it because it's edgy."
that's retarded and elitist.
just talking shit man, nothing personal. the boss is out this week and fuck me if I'm not going to take advantage of that.
Lol that did sound elitist, I'm not trying to be dick just trying to make a point. I tried to emphasize it's not really about being in school or anything.
Look, I've been into industrial music since before you were born, I played in industrial bands since 1983. You make all these statements about schooling, but you don't know anything at all about industrial music or culture. FYI even Trent admitted that he was industrial light compared to groups around at the time. Your whole argument has been on thin ice. Like I said I have no problem with you liking less challenging forms of industrial like NIN, but to argue that NIN are at all the most heavy/challenging industrial group is silly.

MW - I'd like to read some recommendations of bands circa the Pretty Hate Machine era that pwn NIN, just for old time's sake, that was my scene back in the day.
Crap, I'm kinda tired, but let's see? First off Horse Rotorvator by Coil, like landrabies said, Foetus- Nail in particular, any Godflesh record, but specifically Slavestate for the industrial vibe, Pitchshifter, but this is important! BEFORE the pitchsifter.com album, which absolutely blows, The Swans- Time is Money Bastard EP ( I can pretty much guarantee you'll like this one), Front 242......
and don't get me wrong, I thought Pretty Hate Machine was OK, but Coil were miles above him IMO, but too gay for mainstream, and Ministry just destroyed NIN at the time.
I didn't care for the Downward Spiral, never liked it that much, though it was too mopey, like a Cure record. Too goth pop, and not industrial enough IMO. Trents vocals kill the whole thing for me to be honest.
Quick quiz! How many songs does Trent use the line "that I can never have" in? It's gotta be a fuck ton!
