Re: iPad
I know it was probably an issue discussed at length long ago, but was there ever any news about their stance changing on flash? It really bugs me when I go to sites that don't look the same as on t he computer because of the lack of flash. Does it exist on jailbroken versions? Have people confirmed that it is the battery drain they always claimed?

No change.
And, in fact, the Flash experience on any number of Android platforms is....um.....lacking.
As much as it pains me to say it, I don't miss Flash at all when I'm on the iPad doing a bit of surfing. My site lists are very narrow though.

The only thing needed, besides an iPad, is a dedicated full service interface providing audio I/O and MIDI I/O.

Re: iPad
I'm currently doing a tête à tête with Peter Kirn over at his site.
He's saying the Android platform is just as viable for MIDI and music creation as iDevices, and that the only thing holding it back is lack of hardward support.
I'm saying he's insane.
But nonetheless I'm encouraging him to write a full article on the State of Music Creation on the Android Platform.
Because, besides his posts in that thread, I'm not seeing any bright ray of musical sunshine coming my way - courtesy of Google and Motorola.

Re: iPad
So here's a couple thoughts:
- Now that there is an accelerometer, do you think it'll be easy enough for developers of control apps like touchable to be able to use this for velocity sensitivity in the keyobards and drum pads, or would this be some special apple use of the technology?
- Secondly, now that the iphone can be used as a hotspot, I guess that would be a great way to connect the ipad to your laptop for control surface apps when you're away from you're usual home set up. I imagine people wouldn't always want to rely on some wi-fi connection nearby or even at a venue. It seems to me this iphone wi-fi will be great for ipad to lappy communication.

Re: iPad
^ there was always an accelerometer and developers have been looking for a while now at getting an ersatz velocity sensitivity by using the accelerometer or using the microphone to hear for the tapping of the screen. Dunno if iPad2's accelerometer is better than the previous one, or the link to the gyroscope give more resolution to fake this effect...

Exactly, more smoke and mirrors. If Apple wanted to be more up front and transparent they should have broken down yesterday’s announcement into 2 parts.
Part 1: iPad 2 and what you will only be able to do with iPad 2.
Part 2: Improvements and increased access to what already exists on the iPad 1.
Instead they blurred everything together and the list of “Do I need the 2 to do this?” questions seems to grow and grow.
Sites are still falsely advertising that the HDMI connection will work equally on the 1 and 2.

I have no thoughts on this because the idea of picking up my iPad during a performance is appalling.glitchrock-buddha wrote:So here's a couple thoughts:

I'm not following you here because you can easily set up an adhoc wifi connection between your laptop and iDevice right now. Why would you need to go through an iPhone?- Secondly, now that the iphone can be used as a hotspot, I guess that would be a great way to connect the ipad to your laptop for control surface apps when you're away from you're usual home set up. I'm actually pushing for FULL USB connections for apps because the wifi thing, while cool, remains a pain in the ass to deal with. Seriously. Having to setup different shit, even if it only takes a minute, FUCKING PISSES ME OFF.
For instance, 80 and his partners have created the AMAZING Konkreet Performer. I love using it. I've gigged with it. It has utterly and completely changed the way that I perform and coax music out of Ableton Live. You can get sounds going that you absolutely CANNOT get any other way. But having to fuck with entering my IP address when I start it up makes me want to eat my face off.

Most keys or pads on apps DO have velocity; depending on where you hit them. And can a true pressure sensitive screen be far behind?
You need to watch (re-watch?) yesterday’s keynote during the Garageband presentation where it showed you can indeed get key velocity based on how hard you hit the screen. A true
But this has to do with the accelerometer (already in the iPad 1) and nothing to do with the gyroscope.

Doesn't change the fact that NOT ONE developer other than Apple will implement this in their music app.
