I'm in France at the moment on a mate's computer. Just found out about the Live5 thing
I don't think that the upgrade price is too bad at all considering what Ableton have managed to achieve. Just PDC alone must have been a real bitch, especially if they've managed to do it with out creating glitches and clicks. I must admit, I never thought that it'd be possible at all on a real time app.
Add to that the rest of the features (albeit more DJ orientated

) and the upgrade price is a no brainer. You buy into the development when you purchase software, this software is getting developed a bit faster than other apps, that's all. That's got to be a good thing, yes?

Just wanted to say that it sounds like Live 5 is just about everything I ever wanted from Live (as long as the Flanger LFO re-triggers with each activation, anyway...

)
Nice one, Abletonians.

Synced to song time or free running, as you wish.

Hey Rahlo, did you ever sample that one group clap at the start of the "Kotter" theme? I always thought it was a real sitter...

OK, this does look like a good upgrade but i can't see any mention of a networking feature so i can plug two powerbooks together with an ethernet cable and jam with a mate with audio and midi going through the ethernet cable.
Is this going to be implemented or am i blind?
Peace

I'd guess midi and audio ethernet stuff isn't really in the scope of Live.....
There are other tools that do this.

Hey flux,
According to other users on the forum you can indeed connect 2 Tiger-equipped powerbooks with an ethernet cable and sync midi... can't remember the thread. Better still, Tiger allows you to use Airport to sync midi wirelessly between two macs. Throw your ethernet cables away! Dunno about audio and midi, don't see why not. It's a Tiger thing apparently, not a Live thing. I haven't upgraded yet but it's one very good reason amongst many to do so...

Not only is it possible via ethernet, you can also do it via airport. I've done it for my last 2 shows, and it works great!!! my dj uses his powerbook as the master, and mine is the slave, as I'm only processing my vocals through live and need it to be at the current song tempo. We're starting to gravitate toward jamming together during our sets though, so it's sweet!

telekom and rahlo, thanks' for your reply, i think the item in Tiger you are talking about is an audio unit plugin called 'aunetsend' and the 'aunetreceive'.
Not had a chance to test this out but it does look promising.
It would be nice if ableton could 'look' for other machines on the network that had ableton running on them and then ask you if you want to jam etc, after all, i thought that was what ableton is about...
