I don't understand why Mac users are always trying to convince PC users that Macs are better. Its obvious that Mac users will always have a competitive edge over PC users, so why would they want to give that up?

It is not, as the air intake is through the keyboard, so having the processor and HD running while the computer is closed would lead to overheating.

Actually, if you have an external monitor connected you can shut the lid without putting the computer to sleep.

It's all about appearances - I haven't heard one record that sounds better because they used a PC or MAC

it's just how you look when people come over or you go outside with your laptop

that's the only reason i could see going with either or

No convincing me - I'm going to use both - one for the coffee shop (MAC) and one for music (PC)

walk into most artists recording studio and you will find more macs than pc's. talk to any real respectable dj... statistically there are more mac djs than pc dj's.

its really stupid when people say "macs just look better" yes i agree macs do look a hell of a lot better. are they faster? no they have about the same speed now as top lined PC's.

so what is it? what is it that gets soo many mac heads so passionate and aggressive when arguing about the subject?

Sure it is possible. Close the computer, hook up screen, keyboard and mouse, press any key to run it. I was using my PowerBook at work like this for over a year without any problems.

Whatever you're opinion is. It doesn't matter. We're all just killing time with this. Nothing more. Nobody is right. Because pc's can run San andreas and macs run all the good graphic stuff.
They both have their merits and downfalls. They're both boxes that are aimed at the same target group from about every concievable angle they can come with....

But what happens when you close the screen without plugging in an external keyboard and/or monitor?

You see.... this is a minor problem. The purpose of wanting to close the screen without Sleeping is not to operate from an external monitor. But rather, to be able to move the laptop safely.... without going to sleep.

(example.... the guy I saw running across a busy street, with an OPEN powerbook balanced dangerously in his hand. Obviously he must have had soomething running he didn't want to lose. So he was risking serious damage to keep the screen open.

When a Mac goes to sleep you don't lose any data. It only takes about a second or two for it to wake again and when it does everything is exactly as you last left it. So, its usually not a problem. But I suppose it could be for instance if you were in the middle of downloading a file or something. I'd say its probably one of those things that Apple considers a "feature" in order to preserve batter life and screen in case you forget to turn your machine off. Some might find it annoying though, but I dont think most people would really care that much to make them choose a PC because of it.
