Best way to make softsynths sound warmer

I am finding it a JOY to work with older synths that were thinner before newer technology allowed for synths like Sylenth1. Based on this statement, you can imagine that pushing Sylenth1 through some tubes tends to oversaturate very quickly. The sound is already pretty thick, but it can help in slight usage. I may blend in the tube signal with the original for Sylenth.
But with older synths like zero vector and z3ta, running through the tubes is giving me some really nice warm harmonics. This is opening up a whole new world of possibilities, and some "retired" synths are making a comeback.
