Hmm thats funny. So with Jobs rational why did he put firewire on the MBP then?

I too am outraged because I like my little Macbook and would be looking to upgrade to one in about a year.Tarekith wrote:http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08 ... ewire.html
At least there is the MOTU 828 mkII which is USB 2.0. Perhaps an alternative?
Still think it is ridiculous. So, Steve can make himself feel better by saying that all the NEW camcorders are USB, but what about the masses who already have an older firewire? And what of us musicians.
Logic seems stymied, now this......it actually does seem like Apple really could care less about this small part of the market.
Macbook c2d 2.0, 2G RAM, 160G HD 5400 RPM, OSX(10.5.5), XP Home, LIVE6, BCR 2000, UC33e, Yamaha P-200, Logic Studio, KRK V6 II
Probably because of the higher "pro" video cameras which still use firewire and us pro audio musicians.glenn303 wrote:"In one of his characteristically terse email replies, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has reportedly told one Mac user that changes in video camera technology have reduced the need for FireWire on his company's 13-inch MacBooks."Tarekith wrote:http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08 ... ewire.html

One thing good about this is usually I haven't heard of Jobs addressing hardware changes personally.... maybe the geek wil figure out that some of us still use Firewire. Though I've often wondered when FW would start disappearing like Betamax.....glenn303 wrote:"In one of his characteristically terse email replies, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has reportedly told one Mac user that changes in video camera technology have reduced the need for FireWire on his company's 13-inch MacBooks."Tarekith wrote:http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08 ... ewire.html

Express card slots, it's what really makes sense in general. The SATA system requires little hardware to address from what I've heard, so they can't be that expensive, and it offers you a choice of what card to buy for the laptop.
Anyway like people have already mentioned, if you're using firewire (more expensive audio cards) why short you're computer? Guess it makes sense if you also use a desktop, but I hated the file management between two computers....

(that is, it's exactly like any other PC if you put Windows on it, there's no difference)
mr Adl, XP runs just fine on bootcamp, performs very well, its just PC hardware after all. Youre paying a premium for the MacOS so you might as well run that if youre going to pay extra for the hardware.
Hm, quiet different opinions on this. Just asking cause i use several plugin which are win only. Funny thing is, I was asking myself the other day if i REALLY need so many plugin or if I should start selling some plugin and use more samples instead. Hm, really like the idea of having a Macbook with 2.4Ghz and 4Gig Ram

For those being interested, here's a benchmark of different Intel Mobile CPUs running in the very same laptop system. That could help some people decide on the CPU choice.
On another forum people seem to agree that a T9400 is used in the 2.53 GHz model, not a P9500. While this will strain battery life more it seems that according to this benchmark we musicians will enjoy slightly better multithreading performance.
