The Chandler Limited TG2 gets the most use around here since it works so well on a variety or sources but the Summit has mor of a 3d sound to it... if that makes much sense. You can also get some nice distortion if you overdrive the inputs but it's a tad darker than everything else I have. When I was tracking other bands I got into the Seventh Circle preamp kits and they sound really great for the money. Now that I'm just back to doing synth stuff and overdubs it's a bit of a waste to have all these but I can't seem to let anything go.

I'm also partial to the Great River 2NV even though I don't own one(used several times with great results).

@ Sales Dude McBoob, ever tried "the brick" tube pre amp?

seeing your lust for vintage / analog gear give it a go, sonically speaking it's one of the finest mic pre's around, works especially good with large diaphragm mics, like the U87, / TLM 49/67 and ADK Vienna... and is only around 500 USD, it's a single channel amp, though.

it's out of question for me, though... it's made by akai, and after having owned a mpc, never again something with pads and faders from akai.

More like the honeymoon with template 40 is over. Automap universal is still the best way to use soft synths like hardware though I'd say. For me it's SL Keyboard for patch design and keyboard playing (I'm selling off my SL37 and behringer 61 key for an SL61), and then THE APC40 for Live control.

Have to disagree with you on this one. Kore is far easier to set up, and though it requires a VST/AU 'wrapper' doesn't instal it's abstraction layer directly in the MIDI path like Automap does.
I end up using 40 and Kore, otherwise I have no fader control in Live. The APC40 is nice, but I like the LCD screen on the Remote naming the track in Live.

On that line, why Mackie don't release a 1/4 size motorized fader control surface w/LCDs, with just the basics for tracks is beyond me. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

or i would love to have something excactly like the fader port from presonus with 5 faders, one permanently for the master and four in an A-B-C-D bank switch for the control of 32 channels in a tiny unit. yummy!!!

I hear what you're saying, and to be more accurate, I use Kore as well as the novation SL, and it's great, especially for performance and improv (Nothing beats the morphing and morph square patch recall). I just don't think Kore is ideal for tweaking a synth like a hardware synth. There are only 8 knobs and that makes for a lot of layers. The SL gives you of course the 8 faders (which are way faster for ADSR), 16 knobs and lots of buttons. That's why I intend of keeping it around for patch design. But if I had a patch exactly how I wanted I would probably just load it in Kore. In fact once I've designed my own sound with the SL automap version, I'd likely save it and re-open it in Kore, to have access to all it's goodies (I love how you can mangle a sound and then morph back to your original patch with one knob or button!).

if yes, i don't get it... so much money spend on that but using a fw410?

sorry to say, but feels like berlin clubs buying great soundsystems and not treating the rooms or fancy gear all summing through a behringer desk or behringer patchbay... what's the point?

i have actually seen several studios here with an odd chain of signal quality...
