As far as I know at this point you can't even export iPad Garageband files to Garageband desktop. That will be available in a future update.gjm wrote:With GarageBand files on your iPads, can you export them to any DAW for further work or do you all have to wait until Apple releases an update for GB version 11 for your Macs?

Re: iPad
Yes, the current version of GB cannot import the iPad files yet. There is an eagerly anticipated update being waited upon. I wonder if they will also include Logic as an option to import files to as well. Because of the many haters of the desktop version of GB, I assume that the iPad owners will want to skip the limitations of the desktop version of Garageband, like no MIDI out or export and finish their projects in a real mans DAW. Perhaps they will include options to export files so you can even skip Logic.beats me wrote:As far as I know at this point you can't even export iPad Garageband files to Garageband desktop. Also, I am one step closer to an iPad2 as it appears that vDrum owners are now playing the GB drum kit/kits via an M-Audio Uno and the camera connection kit. I have seen one bug/issue with the VH 11 hihat, but all in all apparently they play great. This should also mean that I can use my Alesis control pad as well as my vdrums

Re: iPad
Ah... true. The extra step will become a pain though after a while. Also, it would be a very expensive route to have to buy Logic (if you don't already own it) to get your nearly finished material from the GB iPad version to a non apple DAW (or is there another step I am missing??)delicioso wrote:You can already open GB projects in Logic, so that would already be the case once iPad GB projects can be opened in desktop GB.gjm wrote:I wonder if they will also include Logic as an option to import files to as well.

Re: iPad
What extra step? If it's done right, you should be able to export out of iPad GB and open it directly in Logic.gjm wrote:Ah... true. All GB users are waiting for an update to import from iPad. I am making the assumption that Logic is ALSO not ready to import from the iPad version of GB and would also require an update if Apple chooses to offer the option of skipping the desktop version of GB. If they do not update Logic for this feature, then you will have to import to GB first, then open in Logic. Who knows what little quirks this will raise.

Re: iPad
All I know is that I've noticed some rather unacceptable latency with the drum kits in GB. Might have been a quirk, gotta try again today, but yikes. No problems on the guitars and keys....

Fuck-fuck-fuckity-fuck-fuck!!
I’m seeing too many side by side videos of an iPad 1 and 2 using the same app and there’s a huge difference visually and in performance speed and stability. I’d link but I can’t from work. TBH I have felt my iPad 1 being a bit on the sluggish side as of late but thought it was just the nature of the beast because I had nothing to compare it to. Now I’ve seen the light…
Looks like I may have to pull the “4 – 5 week shipping” order trigger this weekend.

touchScreen. Have you noticed this, but not found that to be the case with a controller?

Re: iPad
I'm making the assumption that exported projects from iPad GB will be a regular Garageband project that desktop GB can open. And since Logic already imports desktop GB projects, there won't be any extra step needed, like importing into GB first then opening in Logic.gjm wrote:If what's done right?delicioso wrote: What extra step? Re: iPad
Yeah, hopefully there won't be some new extension - which would then require an update on both Logic and GB to support that...delicioso wrote:I'm making the assumption that exported projects from iPad GB will be a regular Garageband project that desktop GB can open.
