I loved it. Especially the 3D vistas. Best digital cinematography EVAH!!
Yet, I TOTALLY agree with the below: (thankyou, wisdom of the Internet!)
1. Why does and android learn foreign languages by watching tapes? Surely a microchip would do the job? Isn't this just a bad writer's way of setting up his lingual skills???
2. How can David read dreams? And why doesn't Noomi dream subjectively? Isn't this just a bad writer's way of inserting a flashback???
3. Why is Guy Pearce buried under the worst old-man make-up in recent memory? Why isn't Christopher Plummer playing this role?
??4. Is Vickers really a robot? If she is, why isn't she up with David while the others sleep? If not, why does the captain ask her? Isn't that just an eleventh hour attempt by the writers to invest her character with a little intrigue???
5. How is that the Prometheus skims over the alien planet and almost immediately comes across the Engineers' temples???
6. Why would the Engineers "invite" humans to their weapons base, as opposed to their home planet?
??
7. What are those holographic recordings that come alive in the temple? Aren't they just a bad writer's excuse for setting up the next scene???
8. Why does Noomi's boyfriend suddenly turn into a reckless asshole and remove his helmet in the temple, despite all the inherent dangers?
??9. How do the two guys who decide to leave get so easily lost in the temple, when back on the Prometheus there's a hologram of the full temple showing everyone's position? And everyone else gets out so easily???
10. Why do none of the scientists act like scientists? Why does a geologist act like a douche? Why does a biologist approach a potentially dangerous alien creature like it's a fluffy lamb?
??
11. How can the Engineer's decapitated head be still alive after thousands of years? And why does it explode?
??
12. Why does Holloway, when he wants to die, insist on getting torched by Vickers? Why doesn't he just remove his helmet (which he's already proved so good at)? ??
13. Why does David toss some of the growth goo in Noomi's boyfriend's drink? To see what happens? If so, why does he then basically tell Noomi that's she's got a monster inside of her (while being at pains to conceal the medical imaging from her)? Isn't that just a bad writer's way of imparting knowledge to one of the characters???
14. Why does Noomi remove the squid fetus and then not kill it? Surely not because it just needs to be around at the ending? And how does it grow fifty times its size without any sustenance (an old ALIEN plothole, admittedly)???
15. How can a woman who's just performed a major operation on herself recover so absurdly quickly???
16. Why do Weyland and co just let her tag along on their jaunt to the temple? For that matter, why make the jaunt to the temple when it's such a manifestly dangerous place? Why not send David down there to negotiate with the Engineers???
17. How come there's an Engineer still alive? And why does this massively advance lifeforce, when he does come back to life, only start storming around Frankenstein's monster?
??
18. How does the captain suddenly and inexplicably come up with an explanation for the purpose of the planet? And where does his sudden kamikaze altruism come from, except from bad writing???
19. Why does Vickers exit the ship separately from her lifeboat-suite? Surely not so she can be quickly killed off while the squid survives? And why does she run into the path of the falling ship?
??
20. How does David know everything that's going on, even though he's lying decapitated in the temple???
21. How does the Engineer survive the crash? And when he does, why is his first action not to get into another of the ships, but to thunder in after Noomi like Jason from FRIDAY THE 13th???
22. Why, after everything she's been through, does Noomi decide not to head back to Earth -- to warn them -- but to go off to the (presumably hostile) planet of the Engineers? Surviving on what, exactly?
But still, I loved it.
