It is called "U.S. expansionism". War is the main american business. U.S. entered WW2 for that.

In fact, far from arriving after italians had defeated the fascists, US and UK were there for the whole fucking thing.
The ones who were fighting the nazis were the soviets, not americans. The only thing U.S. did in Italy after WW2 was putting bombs in trains, shops, stations etc. in order to terrorize the population and let a military dictatorship rule the country... 
They wanted fascists to rule Italy, like the colonels in greece, fascists in portugal and such. U.S. have always supported fascist dictatorships (see chile, greece, portugal, venezuela, argentina etc.), because fascists are like obedient dogs and the U.S. throw them the tasty bone. Never heard of U.S. supporting "democracies"
