Ableton Push 3 update

It’s not the buttons but the soft coating on the sides that degrades over time. Sadly a lot of music manufacturers used this same coating before realizing this was an issue. My Qunexus MK1 was ten times stickier than my Push.

As someone who's never touched a Push 2, but I've heard about the "gunky buttons". What makes them gunky?

My Push2 is perfect and hasn't degraded at all in the same way that my Push MK1 has turned into a sticky mess. As Tarekith mentioned, it's the black body coating that has gone to goo.

I'm actually worried about that on even the Push 2. For now though, I'll just enjoy it.

I rarely post here - more of a lurker with fingers crossed for a Push 3 - but def felt the need to chime in with Push 2 gunk stories. Mine was fine for years (bought as soon as announced) until maybe 12 months ago where it seemed to very suddenly turn disgusting. Still some residue left that I’ll get round to fully scraping off in time.

More a casing issue rather than anything to do with buttons/pads though in my experience. Still, a bit of a downer for it to happen.

@j0n35y really sorry to hear that. I did hear a rumour that this was a problem with the first batch of Push2, apparently the issue was sorted in later batches. That was just a rumour though so I’m fully prepared for my Push2 to turn to goo

Don't think it's just the first batch. I have multiple gunky devices with this exact same coating. Every plastic deteriorates with time and the way this PU deteriorates is by getting sticky because the chemicals used to make these surfaces soft break down. Thing is that I have read numerous times that these sticky surfaces are carcinogen and recommendation is to stop using them immediately. Only chance you have is taking it all apart and using an orange based cleaner to scrub off all the gunk.

Hope they won't use these plastic type on a possible Push 3 ... apropos Push 3. Push 2 is out of stock in the Ableton shop now. Let's see what happens

Complete speculation, but I'm in the camp they are not close to releasing something new. Just production issues. I was "lucky" that when I ordered mine last month I got it within a week. Looks like they are in the "we'll produce these until they go and then worry about it" phase.

Frankly, I was disappointed that I couldn't buy through Sweetwater or Musicians Friend (LOVE their financing deals)

Also, OT, but worth mentioning: I was supposed to be able to pay 6 months of about 220 for Suite and Push 2 and they charged me for the full amount. OUCH when I got my Visa bill

Yeah same here. I don’t think they will release anything. So I am waiting until it’s back in stock in the Ableton store and then see if I order from them or Thomann, etc. I see them having the push 2 back in stock soon as a way of telling me that they won’t release a new one any time soon. But we never know. Superbooth is around so there’s always a chance here. But not holding my breath because then I would be dead already for holding it so long lol.

Again, for me, the only thing that would entice me to upgrade the controller would be a true expression jack. My Nektar is fine, but having it native would be a good idea for a future update.

I have kind of an on-off relationship with the Push 2. I got it three times over the years now and always sold it again after some time. I really love the way it works and what it does but after a bunch of sticky plastics during the last years I told myself to never buy sticky plastics again. Also as I have already written I don't like the rubber buttons around the grid. They feel mushy and imprecise. So these are two things they would have to change imho. Other than that the Push 2 is fine for me.

I’m a reasonably new user to Ableton live having spent most of my time in Cubase. I would love to get a push 2 but there is no stock anywhere in the UK which is rather disappointing and I’m not a fan of buying 2nd hand. I also have NI komplete ultimate so now considering maschine as an alternative to push 2 or something from novation/Akai.

Would also jump on push 3 in an instant
