tarekith said $799 for the controller, i reckon that's nearer the mark. seriously, these new bits and bobs are going have an RRP of at least $WTF.99 each
$800!?!? that's retarded. it's just a USB knob box FFS, little to no brains in that box, just a USB chip and a simple microcontroller. no more than $400, more like $250. you guys are too easily impressed.
Dude the akai mpd32 is 299-399. 299 right now at for example sweetwater. This new one will likely be 499 on-line.
I don't see much in terms of display. Not even an LCD? It seems like it would be hard to know what bank everything is currently on.
that's why god gave you a monitor to look at.
lola - agreed, it'll be higher than reasonable because it's Akai, and it's not small, but there's very little technology in that box, actually it's a lot like a monome as far as the brains go, USB port and some brains to light LEDs and sense button pushes. $800 is ridiculous, at a 100% margin I can't imagine it costing $400 in parts.

Yeah, hopefully Behringer will take note of all the excitment and come up with a cheap plastic alternative.

UPDATE: UK details - £399 and ETA April. But don't hold me to that.
There's a stark lack of pricing and availability info right now. That info will come in due course. For now, sit back and digest all this info:
Sounds like he pulled a figure and timeframe out of his ass to me. He put up a guess and then flat out admitted that "There's a stark lack of pricing and availability info right now".

sure, but Akai have the benefit of proper manufacturing, REAL bulk pricing on parts and that case is a LOT simpler to make than a monome case.
I have to admit I'm still giddy...call me easily impressed, but it's a helluva good day to be an Ableton fanboy!
yes and no. there's no real info yet!!!
I'm dying here!!

yes, but the mpd32 has velocity sensitive pads.
these are more expensive than simple buttons with 3 leds in it...

Software is just code. Music is just sound. Nature is just that stuff outside my house.
Any controller will be microcontrollers, interfaces, and knobs buttons. How does that take away from the excitement that we're getting a controller for under $1000 with a multi colored clip button matrix, made out of metal, with a Max customization capability?
I'm grouchy in the morning too but come on man. This is awesome.

totally grouchy too

I thought I'd wake up, read the Ableton front page, start the beta download and go to work, but no, it's tardfest reading through pointless threads.
I'm completely impressed, I want one, but honestly, $800?!?? hells no. time will tell, hopefully by the end of the show today (8 hours from now.)
anticipation!!!!!
SalesDork says $400, surely that's the MSRP.

I wish god gave me my monitor. would have saved me some cash. But still, I don't think my monitor is going to tell me what bank the AKai controller is on.

One thing I don't like from looking at the pictures is that the knobs seem to have a smooth finish.
I hate smooth feeling knobs. When you're on stage and get sweaty your hands slip right off knobs like that.
Some sort of texture makes a big difference.

There's an upgrade for that.

Can we add, delete, copy, duplicate clips with the most sexy black box on earth without using the mouse ? Anyway, soooo glad I got the MPK49 to stand next to it instead of the Remote SL I was planning to buy ..
