I would like page 13 of this thread to be hereby marked as
Exhibit A
In the event that Ableton is ever being utilized on an iPad and people begin having issues, this thread/page should go down in history as the technological equivalent of a blonde joke or the statement "oh i didn't know" and used as a checklist of things to disable and then turn back on one by one until the problem persists.
I can see the thread(s) now...
Subject: LIVE crashes... AGAIN!!
disgruntled app loving Live fanboi wrote:yeah i was on stage with my iPad and MANTARAY iTAR when Live just hung. thats the third time this month. I know its not the iPad because i got directions, checked the weather, the status of my girlfriend's ovulation, played sudoku and found a great Chinese/German/Portuguese/Indian restaurant on the way to the gig
of course what the angry Abe blaming thread/post will not fail to omit is how there was an app running for each of those "features" along with a GPS and it was all done without any keystrokes just by daisy chaining a bunch of half assed programs I used to get paid to remove. revert back to 1999-2003 but enter i2010 and call them all "apps" this time.
let me guess... one of you just installed the new Gator app to manage all those pesky passwords for you right?

tl/dr
But given your pedigree I'm guessing it's more "IT guy whining about stuff"?

I just bought Dennis Leary's Why We Suck for my first ebook. I bought it from the amazon kindle store. Brilliant move by amazon to embrace the iPad instead of fight it. They have a far larger library and they can still make money from book purchases.

The bitchin thing is that most new releases seem like they are HALF of the hardcover price.

Grab the free MultiPong for iPad app before the 13th when they start charging. Pretty slick version of pong that has some twists. You can play it by yourself or with up to four people...not online, 4 people picking a side on the iPad. Fun time killer.
edit: here's the link
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/multipon ... 22908?mt=8
I forget you can link apps. And damnit more people need to start doing that too.

Its hilarious that there's no decent clock/alarm/timer app for the iPad. Apple didn't include a compatible version of their excellent iPhone clock app, so you are left to Wade through a boatload of horrid choices - none of which is all encompassing, and none of which has chigger rating than 3 stars.
How hard can it be to just copy tha Apple app?

+1 also the default calculator app... Dunno if it's a deliberate idea by Apple to encourage people to buy these very basic apps, either way it's annoying, especially when you're used to them from the iPhone. Also missing: a default weather app and that stocks app which I used regularly for €/£/$ conversion.
Picked up a free basic calculator app called
pcalc lite, which seems to work fine...

Am I missing something or is there really no way to visually tell the difference between the cables I have for my iPods and iPhone and the souped up cable for the iPad?

Is it a souped-up cable? What's the difference?

I believe LSZ reported that it's got more oomph to it (power conversion or some shit?) so while you can use the cables from iPhones and iPods they'll charge a lot slower. I sort of just took the man's word as gospel but as I have been plugging my iPad in with random cables it does seem there's times when I have it plugged it in for hours with just slight increases to the battery power level.

Nah, I think the cable makes zero difference. Only thing that I can confirm that makes a difference is whether the iPad is switched on or off while it's connected.
Edit: here's some more info -
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/a ... ained.html - nothing to do with the cable...
What's confusing here is that the message Not charging appears in the menu bar when the iPad is awake, which might lead you to assume that the offending USB port can never charge your iPad. But rest assured, Apple says: once you put the iPad to sleep, the battery will indeed charge. (If you could see the screen while the iPad was asleep, it might even display the charging icon. It's the modern-day "Does the refrigerator light stay on when I close the door?" mystery.)

About half the posts there say there's no difference... from an electrical point of view I'd be very surprised if the cable makes any noticeable difference - the cables are just connector converters i.e. just copper wires, no active/passive components, and I'm assuming they comply to the USB1.0/2.0 electrical spec... By all means try it out if you like...
