Maschine simply kicks ass. Spark is alright but doesn't really compare to Maschine as it's a different concept and you still have to stare at the screen and use the mouse for a lot of it's interface.

Tried the Spark demo. Definitely didn't impress me much, uses lots of cpu. Maschine is much nicer to work with, not to mention that you can actually do everything from the hardware. Not so with Spark at all.

Very true, an entirely different beast, but for drums maschine did not impress, as an all in one solution it most definitely did. Spark is way to fast and you have way to much control over it's drum sounds to take a back seat to maschine in this department.

How is Spark an "all in one solution"? It doesn't sample or chop like Maschine nor does it load VST/AU plugins. It's definitely not as fast as Maschine in terms of workflow nor does it have more controls. Silly to compare the two if you ask me.

I was referring to Maschine as an all in one solution, of course it doesn't sample it's a drum machine, and no it's not as fast as maschine in terms of drums, it's faster.

would rather run microtonic in maschine than use spark.
a beat machine with no sampling is like a beat machine with no sampling.
you can't do all of that wonderful stuff spark does and then resample it and
do it all over again to the same audio?

you know me,, I was quite miffed with arturia for omitting the sampling I mean it's not like it would have cost them extra, it is after all the
other soft/hardware combo on the market. I've always loved everything they've developed I use their analog factory and a few others all the time. when a company is as good as they are there's just no excuse. You don't make a beatmachine in this day and age and not include a ferocious amount of sampling capability, it just goes against everything southern hospitality has taught us the last 400 years

Well we'll have to see what future updates have in store for this beast. The free content and support has been killer.

OK, I'm going to take the plunge and get either Maschine or Mikro at the weekend.

I have a couple of questions with regards to both ...

If I create bits of a tune in Maschine and I pull the midi clip of one of the instruments into Ableton as demonstrated here:

Can I automate/tweak the parameters of the midi instrument within Ableton Live?
In the video linked, the guy automates the volume of the instrument channel in live - but it's not clear if you can tweak the parameters of the instrument this way too?
Can anyone elighten me?

My second question is with regards to the Ableton Live templates you get with the M1/Mikro.
When the controller is using this template and the mode is switched to the one where you can launch scenes from the pads, does this only allow for 16 scenes (as thats how many pads there are) or is there a way of navigating to a 'second page of pads' for more scenes?

Third question is still with regards to the Ableton Live Template but specifically the M1
When using this template, the knobs and buttons above screen act as on/off and volumes etc for 8 channels in ableton.
Can there only be 8 channels or can you have more and navigate through them in the Maschine controller (m1)



Answers to these questions will determine which unit i go for.

Sorry, I don't use the templates. Get the bigger one, you can't go wrong. It's not that much bigger and you'll appreciate the knobs
