U-he appreciation
Re: U-he appreciation
Just noticed that in Bazille, when going through the factory presets - many have their "Stack" set to only 1 by default. On a lot of these, if you increase it, you hear the true richness of the patch, even with no Stack Voice Detuning (which is great btw). You also test your CPU's mettle unfortunately. On others, it seems to merely increase the volume with each stack.
Some of those presets sound fucking awesome tone and character-wise - good showcase for what you can do with Bazille. I've spent hours patching cables around on this thing. A real joy, though you mostly have to work to achieve great results. I'd say the sound is my favourite so far in any VST that I've used.
Just bought the Groove 3 tutorial covering Bazille over 3h34min, from basics to intermediate. $30, but if you use the coupon code "uhe25", you get 25% discount. This offer expires on the 12th.
I'm off to go learn this thing properly.
EDIT: duh, the hard-to-miss oscilloscope makes it quite obvious what happens when stacking. It adds another voice slightly out of phase with the current one, if phase distortion is turned up at all, up to 8. I think this is similar to how the Microbrute's oscillator works. This is probably in the manual which I've yet to finish reading.

Using voice stack is convenient, but cpu intensive.tedlogan wrote:Just noticed that in Bazille, when going through the factory presets - many have their "Stack" set to only 1 by default. Bazille calculates all modules all the time (besides effects)... so if you have a preset using 2 Osc's and a filter... you can add the 2 other Osc's and another filter (set to same settings) which is like a stack of 2 but with no additional cpu use.
Re: U-he appreciation
I thought it only calculated anything once you pressed a note. I didn't think further that once a note is pressed then all modules, like you said, are calculated.deva wrote:Using voice stack is convenient, but cpu intensive.tedlogan wrote:Just noticed that in Bazille, when going through the factory presets - many have their "Stack" set to only 1 by default. Thanks for the advice - my aging CPU really needs its load lightened

Some Bazille patches I'm working on. I really like this synth's overall response and timbres, and its wildness. I'm still trying to fully understand this feral creature, so please excuse my amateur attempts so far. Anyway, here is the link for anyone curious about Bazille patches:

They're all single patches with no external processing and minimal note shifting.

Some sweet sounds there...
Re: U-he appreciation
Thank you kind sir. All your samples you've posted sound great btw, really organic and rich. I've yet to learn how to make Bazille sound like some of yours do: like yet-to-be-built acoustic instruments.

Looking forward to Hive-One and Zebra 3 especially. Not that I need them - I just want them.
Here is some more Bazille patches I'm working on and a sprinkling of Zebra on percussion duty (various patches sampled into drumcells). These two splendid synths like playing together:
Baal's Horn - an Eastern-sounding organic horn-like patch
Fucktronica Generica - a little jam with Bazille and Zebra. All percussion is Zebra as well as the sax-like instrument in the start, the rest is Bazille

Can't wait for Z3, specially since I already own both Z2/DZ.tedlogan wrote:Looking forward to Hive-One and Zebra 3 especially. Not that I need them - I just want them.

Great percussion sound, we have a long chat about U-he drum machine. Something like the Spark 2 + a dedicated controller with the Z3 engine is going to be amazing. Meanwhile drum rack is the solution.

Re: U-he appreciation
some interesting words regarding the drum machine and physical Modeling in the Z3!
sourceUrs wrote:Sure, it crosses my mind every now and then… hehehe, as does a drum machine, a sampler or even a rompler![]()
However, pretty much every resource we have will go into Zebra3 and some makeovers before we'll start anything new. The interesting point is, we'll revisit/improve Physical Modeling in Zebra3!

Yeah I saw that over at the kvr forum. Even though bazille is now providing me with endless fun, I too can't wait for z3. I should probably get Z HZ which would make Z3 free. Man, that's real generous of them.
