The refs subconsciously threw all of the American's games because of their conscious hatred of our president and foreign policy, and the funny thing is that as an American I can't say that we didn't deserve it.
Unless you other Americans get off your asses and take to the streets to fight for what you believe in we will never win a World Cup.
So if World Cup glory is more important to you than politics now you have a reason to think about politics.
Seriously if the French had ever elected a president as dumb as W (which they wouldn't) he would have been thrown out of office by an angry mob in less than a week. That is the same kind of passion that allows them and others like Brazil to win world cups.
When I see people at parades, festivals, etc... in other countries they are screaming, jumoing, dancing, and laughing. When I look at Americans at the same events they are standing there with their a stick up their ass — passionless. I think most of it has to do with the American cultural norm that showing emotion (especially for men) is considered a sign of weakness; wether it be crying or, shouting with joy in the streets after a World Cup victory. Every goddam American black or white, man or woman thinks that they have to be James Dean. We always have to be cool and calm and in control. We as a nation, as a culture, have out-sophisticated ourselves of passion. Maybe its because we are so absurdly materialistic that the only things we are really passionate about any more are things, meaningless stuff, not our friends, not our families, not love. I have met more than one European that says that they think it is cool that every American owns a car. Well it ain't cool. It's the most ridiculous manifestation of our greed and it is only getting worse. Spending an hour and a half driving to and from work will suck the passion out of anyone.
Sorry I babbled on like that, I'm just angry we lost today.
For the record I proudly ride my Italian Bianchi to and from work everyday, rain, snow, sleet, hail, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, swarms of locusts, be damned. Now that's passion.

The refereeing during the Australia-Croatia match was a total sham!!!!! Australia should have had two more penalties apart from the one they got. I have never, ever in all the games of football I have watched seen a guy get 4 yellow cards before. Two and you are off. Plus the inconsistencies of his decisions were unbelievable!!!! I hope he never ever gets to referee an international game again. But I guess the World Cup would not be the World Cup without crap refereeing. It's becoming a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest. A total joke. I really wish they would incorporate video for crucial decisions in particular. No, I don't agree that human error is part of the game. It shouldn't be. They use it in rugby and it doesn't hold up the game too much. Too much is at stake.
I am glad the Aussies got through. They have played well, though the Aussie goalie was rubbish in the Croatia game!!!

Bet Gerd Muller is gutted that that pie eating layabout is gonna beat his record.....
see i find this kinda funny. croatia didn't really do "all" that great against brazil.yeah they had some chances but they basically did what japan did....
create a massive wall of 11 players, then when lucky, break out.
argentina looked good but i wouldn't say they looked any better than brazil did today, not to mention they tied the only tough team they played.
the game where they scored 6 goals was about what brazil did today (only difference brazil played a lot of second string guys most of the game).
that 6 goal game was against a team that COMPLETELY gave up after the 3rd goal.

Yeah that's probably an exception....
In so many sports the ref is on the field, knows when he's made bad
decisions, knows when he has to even the game by giving another bad
decision. They know when they should let something go that is technically a
violation, and u don't have to wait 10mins for some masked reviewer to
mess up the flow.

Hopefully the refs are just setting the tone for the 2nd round, scare everyone now, have cleaner games later.
Lots of complaints from the announcers about players slipping too much too.
Just watched the US-Ghana game.

Pretty much sums it up.
I'm speachless.
It was great to be invited to the party, we'll be back.
World Cup drinking game
Everytime the announcers talk about Ronaldo being overweight you have to drink.
