The only thing to get excited about it is the possibility that any of them work or are supported universally….and then they don’t and aren’t. Hasn’t MIDI been passed through simple standard cables for like 30+ years and yet here we are like it’s a yet to be proven protocol with some kinks that need to be worked out. WTF INDEED!
I’m deducting 3 magic points from all idevices for this world class fuck up.

You know my position on this issue =
Douchebag companies like Korg, who have to go and use a PROPRIETARY Midi sync method for iElectribe and the iMS-20 =
That they could have done what Finger did and just do the fucking thing via CoreMIDI =

It’s as if they took a page from the book of Apple – “Make the software cheap but they’ll have to buy our hardware to use it.” FUCK! IT HURTS TO SAY IT!

But in the shrewdest move I’ve seen Apple do to date, the new Final Cut Pro coming out in June will be only $300.

That’s the full version. Not a lite or express version. You can edit your home movies on the same software movie studios are using to make blockbuster movies for only $300. It’s shit like that, that makes a Mac worth the price.
But we’re just talking about trying to pass MIDI through a damn cable here and that supposedly is a big hurdle or closely guarded secret.

those who control the hardware... control the software.
and therein lies your mac vs. pc debate parallel with your pc vs. microsoft debate.
did you know that the circle is considered a symbol of perfection.
does this apply to a circle jerk i wonder

I'm really curious to see if Logic finally gets a full rewrite now too, it's due for a version X as well. Can you imagine Logic Studio for $300? nuts.

What would Logic have to add to inspire you to walk away from Live?
If Live only had arrange view would you still use it?
I’m at the “done for now” point with Live because of all it’s instability problems with third party plugs and I’m not a fan of Live’s native devices. Doesn't matter how great Live is if it's constantly freezing, cutting out, or crashing.
Also I could have as little as 24 bars of 3 tracks recorded in Logic and I feel like I’ve made some progress. By comparison I could have 10 tracks in Live’s session view all with a bunch of clips and I feel like all I accomplished is a stacked mess that is going to keep on growing and I most likely won’t finish the song. I let Live’s workflow take advantage of me.

I'll never ditch Live, it's the core of my DJ and live sets. In terms of producing, I use logic and live equally at he moment. I'm sure once live 9 drops, I'll get Interested again and use it all the time.

I'd leave Live in a HEARTBEAT if Logic had some sort of decent looper thang going on...ala clips and session view.
But, like the iPad, there's no viable alternative.

I came to live as a diehard logic user.
I saw live as a musical note book that would sit on my lap top as a starting point and that i could transfer ideas out of and into logic on my desk top to fill out and finish.
I worked like this for about three weeks then realized i was working start to finish in live.
In my mind live is a great musicians tool, logic is a great producers tool.
While i'm here i have a couple of questions about iPad apps.
I'm getting me an iPad2 in a couple of weeks and i'm looking at,
TouchOSC.
Touchable.
Griid.
So, to save me dragging my way through all the threads, what is every ones opinion on these app's?
I would like to have as much control from one app as possible and be able to launch clips, record into an empty clip slot, control devices and launch scenes..
15" 2.4 MBP/Live/Sampler/Operator/ Home made Dumble clone/Two Strats/One Jazz Bass.

touchAble is my pick for an all-encompassing Live controller. Griid is cool for the sequencer, but just isn't as comprehensive. TouchOSC - or the equally as impressive Midi Touch - are great for other functions you may need like tons of XY pads or detailed controller layouts to manipulate specific rack or synth parameters. Having said that, touchAble also gives you access to anything you might add via macros...and it gives you keys and drum pads. Oh, and soon you'll get absolutely amazing XYZ pads as well...!
I'd really get the following apps:
touchAble
Griid
Midi Touch
Konkrete Performer
KapturePad
It's not that much of an investment, yet gives you an astonishing level of performance control.
