digital is just simplified analog. ;)

"all the world is a analog stage in which digital is just a bit player."

knowledge of both is greater than being a fanboy of either.

which brings us back to point...
reality can be "played-back" only in the way it was recorded

To put it simple, the flaws in analogue music equipment is what differs it from its digital counterparts. Variations in transistors and resistors between individual devices cause a certain unique signature sound for a given device (call it "soul" if you will). VSTi's can obviously emulate this, but usually you can get pretty much the exact same sound out of individual daws. I have to say that I've never quite heard something like the Roland SH-101 in software form. Emulations fail to arouse the same feeling of organic and living sound.

However, this is for me not worth it. I'd rather buy more rotary controllers and perhaps some automated faders. These days, by using multiple effects on a track you can pretty much create any sound and feeling you need anyways. Also, the moment you start turning knobs, moving faders and pushing buttons, everything go pretty much haywire regarding sound anyways, so I really see no need to go there. Analogue devices obviously require much more maintenance and care as well (in my experience, many used analogue synths are far from in perfect shape. Knobs or faders that dont work etc.).

Just my 2.31 cents regarding this never ending debate :)

not quite. computers have transistor, resistors, even capacitors. yet are not considered analogue.
consider this what makes analogue "analogue"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_signal

and what makes digital "digital"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrete_signal

and finally a little bit about measurement uncertainty
(sorry, i vagued out trying to read the crap everyone was writing)

For me the bottom line is trust your ears. Analog or digital, if it sounds good it is good. That's the only proof you need.
