what's ironic (IMO) about 9V's claim is that no amount of notation could ever fully capture the full sonic landscape of a live performance, when one takes into account the room acoustics, reflections, reverberations, not to mention gasps from the audience, etc. I would argue that all of these sounds, fully combined in some sort of live setting, would define the penultimate musical event - music at its finest, so to speak. No amount of notation, let alone field recording, could ever capture this fully, because the environmental conditions are infinite in nature.

Surely a more important question was asked by Howard Jones: 'What is Love?'.

And perhaps therein lies the answer to this question as well.

maybe all you say against music as an artistic discipline is because nowadays many people call themselves "musician" only because they put together some prefab loops in a daw and hope to become popstar. But my topic was about music as an art in itself. Italians invented this modern art, that is why to me it is not difficult to understand these matters and the differences between midi and audio... who knows... different cultures, i guess.

no wonder they kicked you off those other forums.
your final word is that Italians know more about music because of the 16th century, therefore you naturally know more than us.
if you said you know more about stupid looking overpriced leather loafers that would at least be believable.

The topic of this discussion has never been about music as an artistic discipline, nor about music as an art itself. It is quite clear in the Title of the thread that this topic has and remains about MIDI vs. Audio, what is music. In addition, to say that Italians invented music as an art form is misguided, and borderline narcissistic coming from an Italian. Sure, some of the early developers of Western music were Italian, but that's like saying Christopher Colombus discovered America when there were already people inhabiting it's land.

You call him "christopher"?! LOL. Colombo did not discover anything, and the name America comes from italian "amerigo" (amerigo vespucci). The traditional american history tells this fairy tale about columbus and all the crap, because they killed millions of native indians. It is only "bad conscience", i guess. By the way, this is OT.

Whatever. It was an analogy. You are focusing on the wrong words. In context, it was right on topic, but to prove you are right you have removed it from it's context. I know the story of America, that is why I used that analogy. Go ahead, keep believing you are the godfather of music because you were born in Italy. Only Italians are real musicians... etc. etc.
I'm done.

c) Are you getting anything out of this (it appears that no one else here is, at least not in any positive way)?
d) As a music hobbiest, I find your "only a real musician could understand" rantings to be particularly offensive. Do you really think a formal musical education is necessary to assess your logic or lack thereof?
e) You seem to be a very bitter, egotistical person. Not really a question, but hey, I was making a list.
f) What do you think about Behringer desks?
g) Do you make music?
a) ?!
b) ?!
c) interesting discussion.
d) yes, only a real musician can understand the complexity of music. Infact 90% of what we call "music" is just commercial music, very simple.
e) ?!
f) i had a little behringer analog mixer years ago, and it was noisy. Then i went to digital gear. I gave the little behringer to a friend of mine: it was a fuse. Now it is quite silent, for him (but he plays the electric guitar, often distorted)
g) yes
