Wait, what you mean is spirituality, right? In this case, every human being have spirituality, because of thoughts like "why death", "why i am here", "why the world exists", "what the fuck is reality and why I am alive", "why evil and good", "what's the meaning of love", "why grief" etc. But I was talking about religion, not spirituality. Religious people are always very false, hypocritical and mean. If not it's because they are very ignorant (because they could not study or such: old people that could not go to school, for instance). As soon as people get a culture, they stop believing in such scary and superstitious crap. If not it's because they are priests, preacher or such money lovers. Otherwise they have mental and/or sexual problems. As a last hypotesis maybe they have to "believe" because of mere conformism (family, state, the little town in which they live etc.). But, again, this is just a question of hypocrisy, nothing else than that.

Regading China and USSR, if they commited crimes, it wasn't for sure because they were/are atheist countries. Japan is atheist, too. France is atheist, and many other nations, too. I guess the problem here is religion, not a state with or without a religion. Of course, the more a state is religious, the more it commits crimes.

It's funny because even all the dumb people who claim "I have faith" are aware of the fact that, in case a person starts talking about "voices", "devil tempting", "I hear Jesus calling me", "I can percieve the power of god in my heart", "I saw the light" etc. is because he/she has mental illness (schizophrenia, psychosis etc.) or serious sexual disturbs (hysteria etc.). Unless you think those diddlers who pretend to have "holy visions" (lourdes, fatima etc.) are for true and not for money?

I don't think the majority of people who claim to hear voices or visions in this religious context are mentally ill, it's more somewhere between them wanting it and the power of the mind playing tricks on itself.

Someone wants to feel special or "touched by God" will fool themselves, like lying so much you believe it.
Notice how someone responds when they get "touched" is the same way as they've seen it before them.
If they've seen people speaking in tongues, they'll speak in tongues. If they see a seizure, they'll do a seizure.
It's like how they always have a vision of some figure in their religion. You never see a christian have a vision of Ganesha. Mind tricks. Those aren't visual or aural hallucinations like the real deal mentally ill, it's the need to feel special. One person could do it to themselves like 10% consciously and 90% subconsciously while someone else could be 50/50 and some straight out fraud. I'm not including the priest in that or any fake cohorts in the audience, just congregation. The mind can be so malleable, yet so powerful, like silly putty!

Reminds me of some guys who sit in a wheelchair all day on a busy sidewalk where it's mostly tourist traffic asking for donations. Around 3pm-4pm the guy in the wheelchair gets up and another guy takes his place. Shift change!

Sam Harris made your point well in saying "If you think saying a few latin words over your pancakes in going to turn them into the body of Elvis Presley, you've lost your mind. But if you think more or less the same thing about a cracker and the body of Christ, you're just a catholic."
