Cool trick I wish I knew earlier: right-clicking on an Operator oscillator envelope, you can copy from another oscillator. Throwing a couple detuned oscillators around and messing with routing is ten times faster now XD

yo. just wanted to let you know about this thread here for a pretty neat workaround for track folders. only works with submix folders though, but the upside is that you can have one trck that contains ALL your effects etc and still be able to use all the sends as sends

once you have several thousand songs warped, and multiple versions of all of your own songs it gets a little hectic to wade through all of that music. i was looking for a system where i could easily get at my songs by bpm, artist name, genre, key, etc. and the ableton browser doesn't let you sort yet...

if you're on a mac though, you are in luck. finder now has near instantaneous searching that won't crash ableton and supports drag n drop for clip packs.

here's how my organizational structure works

folder 1 - bottom ableton browser = master crate = every song i play named BPM-KEY-artist-track-genre-tags-tags-tags-tags-tags-etc.als
folder 2 - middle ableton browser = hot crate for that individual gig = tracks copied from the master crate that day
folder 3 - top ableton folder = originals + vip business

then i have several finder windows open for the different genres, called up be doing the (now instantaneous, thank you leopard) tag searches.

when i need a song in a given key code (camelot notation) i do a search for that, and then sort by bpm.

finder supports drag + drop into ableton btw. very handy.

Anyone know how to build a simple reverb rack with native Live effects? ( maybe simple delay,phaser?

Do I need any external vst`s to build a simple reverb in a effect rack?

(The challenge off course is to not use the reverb plugin, but try to recreate it to get more lowlevel parameter control and personal sound, not sounding like Rober Henke with eco algo

one thing you could try (although this might still use Live's reverb) is use a simple delay or filter delay for the early reflections, set L & R both to time, give one a setting of about 15ms and another 30ms, (if you use filter delay you can also give them different filter settings which can be even nicer) then follow it by Lives reverb with the 'reflect' turned all the way down and just use the reverb for the tail - the tail is the harder bit to recreate anyway

I suppose you could attempt to make the tail with another delay, but the problem with delays are that the timing is too consistent - part of what makes a reverb work is the randomness of all those thousands of reflections bouncing around all over the place - maybe a ping pong might help, but I think it will never sound right

of course, you could use a different reverb for the tail - as Reverb is made up of 2 different signals - Early reflections and Reverb, or diffuse tail - that means you can use different ones for both of them so if you don't like the ER from one but you like the tail from it you can combine them - and as I said, a delay can do the ER part quite well and sound maybe a little more clean

What would I need to do this?
Im not concerned about CPU usage, so if I need 200 delays to do it, thats fine

Wide/phat snares:

Duplicate your snare track (or bus or course) ...

Pan each track hard left, hard right ....

Bring volume back down ....

Set the delay compensation on the right hand track from anywhere between 16 to 33% (depends on tempo of course, this setting suitable for 130-40bpm).

You should just about hear one snare track'snap' just a millisecond before the other, adjust setting to taste.
