you should be around 10% better on this machine........
i know... beats me, i already looked at the other q6600 machines in this test and wondered why my results were that bad...but i did the test again and it seems that my clock stays at 1,6 GHz throughout the whole test (i am using CPU-Z for the analysis)... anyone else having the problem with speedstepping not turning up the multiplicator? (and: yes i already did try to turn it off in the windows energy management...)

maybe you have some manufacturers software running (likely on brand new machines) , which overrides the bios settings. my Asus board came with such stuff.........kick it.

I just upgraded to Leopard 10.5.1 from Tiger 10.4.11 and my test returned a 10% drop on the CPU meter. I can't tell you if this is actual usable resource gain or just a meter difference though. I am still getting the occasional audio glitch playing back 8 tracks. Diggin' Leopard so far... few bugs but I haven't upgraded to 10.5.2 yet.

OS 10.4.11 Results:
1. Ableton Live CPU Meter: 74%
2. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model: Laptop, Apple MacBook Pro
3. Operating System: OSX 10.4.11
4. Ableton Live version: Live 7.0.2
5. CPU Make, Model, and Speed: Core Duo, 2.16gHz
6. Amount of Ram: 2GB
7. Soundcard: RME FireFace 800 (Latest Driver)
8. Hard Disk Drive Speed: 7200 RPM Internal
9. Number of playback tracks? 8 Tracks

OS 10.5.1 Results:
1. Ableton Live CPU Meter: 64% (Rides on 63% with occasional peaks of 64%)
2. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model: Laptop, Apple MacBook Pro
3. Operating System: OSX 10.5.1
4. Ableton Live version: Live 7.0.2
5. CPU Make, Model, and Speed: Core Duo, 2.16gHz
6. Amount of Ram: 2GB

CPU meter was a solid 53/54% - no jumps or peaks

No coolbook here for those wondering.

NOTE : This is with the wireless disabled. As noted in another thread having the wireless enabled increased the CPU meter and made the audio a bit glitchy using the 10.5.2 Leopard update here also.

My mom and sister added their own RAM to their computers. If you fuck it up I'm going to laugh at you. A lot.

omfg no change. still 67%

the box does run smoother overall, a little faster bootup, seat of my pants feel.
