Well, this leads us down the "That's no different than when *you* funded..." path but supporting a foreign government does not directly equate to being responsible for it's actions. I would agree it does raise the probability, but there is not a direct connection.

I think it's fair to say that even if Georgia's attack on South Ossetia was not answered by a Russian military response, this wouldn't have worked out to the US advantage: we'd still end up being supporters of someone who used military force against the population in the territory he governs, which resulting in damage to civilian property and non-combatant deaths.

I *want* to hear our government saying that Saakawhatsis' use of force was inappropriate, and that they are constructively involved in a peaceful solution. I *don't* like the idea that my government would foment and then somehow take advantage of a situation knowing that it would involve civilians getting killed (even though I'm pretty sure they are capable of it).
