Just finished moving, and setting up the new studio. Went with a smaller desk this time so I could put my monitors on their own speaker stands, so far I like it a lot. Not sure if it's the fact the room is bigger, or if it's the stands, but I get much better low end definition now, very happy about that.

Here's the guitar set up off to the left of the main desk:

My DJ and Machinedrum set up is off to the right of the main desk, but I forgot to take a pic of that. You can kind of see it in the top pic.

What type of speaker stands are those? The ones on either side of your desk look perfect. Out of curiosity, why the taller speakers? Are you doing pro-logic or thx stuff as well or is that part of your stereo field design. Nice space.

Dude, are those ADA 2x12 cabinets? Nice! (I use an ADA MP-2 guitar preamp. LOVE it. Used to have those cabinets, now have a Marshall 4x12. The ADAs were a hell of a lot easier to carry around. It's annoying how nobody really makes upright 2x12s.)

I made the speaker stands myself actually, ditto on the tall ones for my DJ set up (puts the monitors right at ear level so I don't have to blast them). Yes they are on spikes, pretty much neccesary for monitors that heavy and with the carpet, and for decoupling. The taller speakers are the Alesis M1 actives that used to be my main monitors before I got the HR824's, now they are my DJ monitors.

The speaker cabinets are actually custom made for me years ago by a friend of mine who works for Washburn guitars. Loaded with Eminence speakers if I remember correctly. And yes I had them made upright for ease of transportation when I was playing in bands back in the day. Sadly, I rarely use them these days as I typically go direct into the DAW now from the Pod X3. Funny, but I used to have an ADA MP2 as well, it was more or less my introduction to MIDI. :)

Interesting. I never record guitar direct. The presets on the MP-2 are mostly crap, but wow can I dial in my own sounds on that thing. I spent so much time doing that, and programming my TC M-One processor, for playing guitar live, that I have no interest in using Guitar Rig or some other VST. I just mic up my cabinet and record. The MP-2 has balanced recording outs, actually. So if I did record direct it'd be through that (still get tube tone at least) rather than a VST.

Those ADA MP's keep popping up on the NZ equivalent of e-bay.
It's mostly the MP1 version.
I had one for years that i piped through a peavey classic power amp.
Great tone,,,
I keep thinking i might buy another one, but can't think why.
Right now i am using my Matamp and a palmer PGA-04 loadbox/cab simulator.

hey that little black shelf just to the right of your monitor that your MOTU (at least i think it's a motu) is sitting on... is that shelf part of that desk? if not, did you make it? buy it? i need a shelf like that (would prefer white though).

It is most likely a different distance of the speakers towards the backwall.
