OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
Re: OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
I use MotionX GPS on my iphone, works great, even way out in the sticks mtn biking. Just got back myself from a ride, nothing like cruising down the hills over frost-covered singletrack...

goddamn, it's getting cold!
What I should be doing, is working on one of my papers, which is due tomorrow. Instead, I continued to tinker with the bike.
New black tires, and black / silver chain. Goodbye, white.

it's screaming for a green Live sticker. or maybe print the neon green logo on a black background postcard size and stick that in the spokes like the hipsters do.
yeah, getting cold here too, need some winter riding gear. it's gonna be 40s during the day this week (that's cold for us, damnit!!)

aqua, did you paint those rims yourself? nice.
I came for the

Re: OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
Thanks! No, I didn't paint them. They're EighthInch Tessa wheels, which come in assorted colors, including green
Re: OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
some rubbing alcohol and elbow grease will take the sticker goo off without hurting the paint on your rims
Re: OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
Yeah I need to get on that. I'd tried peeling it off with my nails/hands, but no dice. That goo is crazy hard AND still amazingly sticky. It's picked up all sorts of grime and dirt over the weeks. Starting to bother me.
Thanks for the tip!

Get yourself a bottle of "Goo Gone" at any grocery or hardware store, works even better than alcohol. Much less elbow grease needed, cheap too

Thanks T. I'll try that out.
this shit is turning into a serious addiction.
Just got a new drop handlebar, low profile cross brake levers, pedals with clips, and a fixed cog + lockring. Sucks that I won't be able to try it out for 3 weeks, since I leave tomorrow for PR.
Actually, nah it doesn't suck. 80 degree weather, here we come.

I wanted to ask some roadies how important they really feel drop bars are.
I'm ALWAYS been into Mt biking, this last summer I got into road riding, all day long rides on an aluminum Mt bike with skinny ass 120psi 700c wheels. I really like my bike but was thinking of getting a road bike because that's what people use to ride long distances on roads. as a hobby it's a good thing to spend money on since I know I'd use it and it's massive amounts of exercise that feels great.
but I ask how important drop bars are. I could always put a carbon fork on the bike to smooth out the aluminum fork's ride, I don't know.
it's winter, not buying anything soon, just been wondering about drop bars.

Re: OT: Cycling ... as in... riding bikes... as in... bicycles
Wow cool. A bike thread! Apart from music, my other main addiction is bikes!
My main discipline is downhilling and I mix that up with a bit of xc for fitness and fun trail riding etc. I did the whole Whistler dh thing this year (a life goal I can now tick off) and upgraded my bike when I got back from a Iron Horse Sunday to a Specialized Demo 7. My main 2 rigs are the Specialized Demo 7 09 for the extreme end of riding and a Giant Trance X2 09 for the more xc side of things. I've also got a hardtail which I'm going to sell and I've still got a classic dragster/cruiser complete with flame paintjob and skulls on the ends of the handlebars

On my way home from work tonight, this happened:
Chick: [Jumps out the cab into the street not looking where she's going,]
Me: [ZING! Right past, barely missing her.]
Chick: JESUS CHRIST!
ME: JESUS CHRIST HIS ONLY SON OUR LORD WHO WAS CONCEIVED BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BORN OF THE VIR-
Chick: FUCK YOU!
Me: PEACE BE WITH YOU MY CHILD!

I'm so annoyed that people don't look both ways when they enter the street. I learned that shit in preschool.

@Tarekith, whenever I go down to PR I mostly divide my time between San Juan the capital... mostly for gigs, and my hometown, Aguadilla, on the NW coast. About a 90 minute drive from San Juan.
