Just copied over the new Config/devices.cfg, and it now reads previously mapped devices; but won't map anything new.
I checked once again, everything works for me.
Can you show me your devices.cfg?

Sure... it was just copied over directly from the GitHub repository.
Code: Select all
[Strict_matching]
"Max Audio Effect" = NAME
"Max Instrument" = NAME
"Max MIDI Effect" = NAME
"Audio Effect Rack" = NAME
Kontakt = PARAMETERS
Reaktor = PARAMETERS
[Additional_banks]
Operator = True
[Dump]
new_devices = True
unmapped_parameters = True
default_ignore = False

Have no idea. The config looks correct. It must be working if it's applied.
Going to improve logging to better understand what's going on.

Hello. On which kind of devices you tested this? Currently only VSTs are supported.

Ah ok. I only have AU switched on so it was working with AU. I shall switch to VSTs and report back

Just installed ubermap in live 11.0.12
Working great!
I want to explore the kontakt recent addition.
Perhaps I can test it.
Now I need to find what I need to install.
I will go back an re-read thread.

Glad to see someone finds the L11 compatibility update useful. If people are still interested in this project, I will do my best to support it further.

Hi vokinpirks,
I just discovered your scripts. I had previously purchased Preditor 2 €79 (which doesnt work in Ableton 11 yet) and will probably be a while yet before it does. So I am grateful for your time and effort you put into this so far and wish I knew about it before hand.
I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, so may have a few q's once I get into installing and trying to configure devices.

Hi Vokin,
I got around to setup up ubermap today. Everything seemed to go well on install (running MacOS 11 M1 & live 11.1 & push2)
The problem is ubermap creates a .txt file within ~\ubermap\Devices folder. I was expecting a .cfg file to be created but they are not.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? Pretty sure i'm following install instructions and didn't really see any Mac users having the same issue in this thread.
Also, in Ableton preferences I dont see an ubermap script to select, I presume you just use the Push2 script and the install has modified that?

that's a good question. I am on windows 10 and have tried several times. ubermap is not showing as a midi remote script. Anyone?

Hey base,
Does it still create the .cfg files within the ubermap/devices folder? Because if it does, its probably they way its supposed to be.

I just seen an older thread, and you do not need to change the push2 script.

This make a heck of a difference.
Good to know, thanks.
To gather it all together,
Works with the latest versions of live up to 11.1.11
Windows and Apple
You don't change the script to ubermap
The setting in options.Txt must be 127, not -1
A quick way to revert is to restore the pyc file
Don't expect apparent change until you have a preset ready for a plugin and you load it to a track and select it in push
One more thing, what is the advantage of this method over just creating racks and mapping their knobs? I can see both involve quite a bit of actions, and the ubermap does look more elegant, although there are always those version concerns - will it be adjusted to ableton changes. Another advantage is that you don't get this other layer of device cluttering push screen and you get more than 8 knobs.
Thanks

@Base - "One More thing, what is the advantage of this method over just creating racks and mapoubg their knobs? I csn see bith involve quite a kit if actions, and the ubermap just looks more elegant."
For me its 3 advantages than stock ableton mapping:
1. I can rename bank pages on the push. For example an instrument page can be labelled OSC or Filter, rather than Bank 1, Bank 2, you cant do that with ableton stock
2. You can have blank slots in a Bank, you cant do that with ableton stock
3. You have have the same control on multiple bank pages. For example, I want to map an EQ with the input and output gain across multiple pages/banks, that way if I change EQ gain on one bank page, I dont have to navigate back to the page where my Input and Output controls where mapped. You cant do that with ableton stock, if a prameter is mapped on bank 1, it cant be mapped to bank 2
Ableton not supporting thes things by default is doesnt help peoples workflow I think
I hope one day Ableton will implement Bitwigs way for doing device parameter mapping. Its so easy to setup mapping at the device or preset level depending on how you wish to set it up. Even with the Push2 in bitwig it works perfect using Moss's script -
http://www.mossgrabers.de/Software/Bitwig/Bitwig.html
You just dont get image feedback like you do with ableton
