leedsquietman wrote:This is some nonsense featuring the Live 8 Beta, just a couple of hours to throw this grimey little sub 1 minute 50 second groove together, no great musicianship as I did it using my laptop and played keys off the lappy keyboard. It has a gritty industrial type feel, with drums thrown through the limiter plugin for a hard compressed sound and the use of the new overdrive plugin on the bass line, so it's not designed to be a smooth chill out lounge vibe, in your face is the idea...

Features - Group Tracks (2 drum tracks grouped into 1, 1 operator kit, 1 drum loop, the operator kit was also groove changed, using an 'extract groove' function from a swinging audio loop, over a more static audio drum loop), 2nd group track 3 synth parts, 3rd group track 3 FX parts.

Also used - Vocoder - listen to the mild mannered Operator Pad (used the draw function too, very cool) change into a swirling wind noise when the beat changed up with automation on the vocoder. Also - I recorded a sample of a TI Speak and Spell saying 'repeat' and put that through the vocoder at the end which sounded awesome. The new warping transient beats algortihm was used on warping one of the breakbeats and the crossfades on arrangement can be seen in the arrangement .jpeg as 2 loops nicely crossfade).

Not really mixed or mastered properly. Just EQed groups and the bass line and threw a limiter on the master buss to pump up the volume a bit.

This is a great thread.

I'm not sure this is exactly the right place for it but I have a ravey jungle/breakcore tune which I started and got quite far with before I had monitors. Recently I have been making new dubstep tunes and remixing some older ones (more like salvaging) made on hifi speakers, and have stopped making jungle/breakcore.

Although I quite like it I doubt I will ever get around to finishing this one off and spending time mixing it properly so I thought I should post it here so it hasn't completely gone to waste.

The song is called Badman Innah Bizznizz and my breakcore name is The Orphaniser

Any comments much appreciated.

I really love it! It's both jolly, bizarre and banging all at once :D
Very nice showcase of L8 features (Y)

Holy crap!

I vaguely remember promising to post some audio in this thread, and I have shamefully forgotten all about it since 8O

Really nice thread, yes.

Maybe I'll post something some day.

:P

ive been putting together a few tracks for the record production month challenge, and got into the beta in time to put the polish to this track, a little number cut together from a Mario Savio protest rally speech from the sixties. Ues some corpus on the bass, and a bit of noise vocoder on the voice, and a heavy batch of multiband dynamics. For your listening pleasures...

you know I'm actually proud of this thread. hopefully a lot of you have found it motivating at times to make some nonsense just for the hell of it and share it here. I think thats a very healthy habit to get into.

I'm slowly building a modular synth (holy fuck it's expensive, and for that reason it's slow going), and for some reason it hasn't occurred to me to start posting modular nonsense here yet, but I definitely will very very soon. be on the look out for very nerdy knob tweaking for no other reason than that "oh neeto" feeling.

my latest contribution.

what could be more nonsensical than tweaking on a box of knobs for 5 minutes when you're supposed to be at work? how bout tweaking on a box for 30 minutes and recording 5 of it to share for your buddies online.

it's just noodling on my halfdone modular.
