Jubei, I have an iMac exactly like yours, a 15" G4 800mhz.

If I remember correctly, you could be right saying that it doesn't show you the cpu speed option. I remeber it surprised me a bit when I found it on the powerbook.
The bad thing is my iMac is now being serviced, so I can't check.

Your test score doesn't surprise me, this iMac is much much slower than the 1.25 ghz powerbook, with every app.

not an 800mhz,

he just used the results of an 800mhz iMac to illustrate how WAY off his results are.

did you go through this in preferences:

Audio - Input Audio Device > "No Input"
Audio - Output Buffer Latency > "512 Samples" (if you can't get latency this low - set it as low as you can without pops'n'clicks and make a note in your post)
Audio - Sample Rate > "44100"
Audio - Overall Latency - "0ms" latency compensation
MAKE SURE DELAY COMPENSATION IS TURNED ON under the options menu (This is a new v.5 feature that does indeed use cpu cycles and is critical to the test)

Midi/Sync - Remote Control Surfaces - NONE, NONE, and NONE.



and what sound card are you using?
some firewire soundcards will induce a higher cpu load.

was reading this and checked my old G4 933 mHz within the optionsmenu, and found also no option to increase processor performance, checked the helpmenu, and it said this:


For PowerBooks, iBooks, and Power Mac G5 computers, choose Highest from the Processor Performance pop-up menu to allow your computer to work at its fastest. This uses more energy. Choose Reduced to save energy. This may cause your computer to work more slowly.
Some models support the Automatic setting, which allows your computer to switch rapidly back and forth between the Highest and Reduced settings to optimize energy use, depending on how much work the processor is doing.


So I guess no I-macs or G4's have that option?
Let's hope It works as fast as possible by default

(no usefull info, but telling anywayz;I am switching over to PC in a weeks time; never thought it for possible, but ableton did the damage.....needed a laptop and need the power; dell inspiron 9300 pentium M 2.26 coming up!)

2.Laptop dell 9100
3.Windows xp sp1
4. 3.2 ghz p4
5.1gig of ram
6. used stock card, and mbox
7.60gb internal 7200rpm

Its funny I would of thought the macs would did alot better. But going through all these post, and seeing the average being about 65%. Man whats even cooler is as I'm writin this the test is not goin above 35%.

mmmhh... please post the result you have with your new computer... I think you'll have 20% or even less, as I have 25% w/Pentium M 1.8, you should get the best resutl here I think.

I finnaly found the problem : you told to disable the Remote Control Surfaces but I disabled also all the MIDI instruments that were controlling Live. The result was 69 % (with the internal soundcard).

Last question : what is the PC equivalent to the G4 1,67ghz ? My point is that , maybe Live for Mac is more slow than with an equivalent PC machine. Something Ableton could fix with an update for Mac users, maybe...
