Update on the song sync thing. Even if you didn't buy it from iTunes it still has to be available on iTunes in order for it to be in the cloud. So your own tracks, Beatport, Juno, et al tracks: FUCK NO!


From what I can tell there currently isn’t a way to delete media files from your idevice without syncing it to iTunes and removing it from there. Am I wrong? I wonder if this icloud thing is going to change all that. Actually it should if Apple is pimping the fact that you never have to sync it to a computer again.

Yeah. Not surprisingly the paid iCloud service is a fail in my book. But I'm not an iTunes fan at all, so I'm not surprised that I think it's lame.

The free iCloud non-music serivce is nice though.

You currently cannot remove songs from your iThing, as far as I know. I have mixed feelings about the whole "cutting the cord" vibe to the event. I mean, I hate syncing, and rarely bother to do it. So on one hand it's great. But on the other hand it seems like Apple is trying to cut computers out of the picture completely, which is weird because... they're Apple.

I was actually surprised by the delay in release times, Fall for iOS 5 and July for Lion. Usually Apple drops this shit within a week of announcement, although iCloud is already released in beta but no the full service with music match.

the cloud is working good at syncing apps onto all 3 ipads.

no more "why havent i got that game/app" from the kids.

Update on the update. If you do have tracks that aren't for sale on iTunes you can use the 5G of free storage you get with iCloud for that. I guess it somehow mixes the tracks in with the rest of your library? That would be annoying if you have to manually do something.

Also you will be able to buy more storage capacity but the prices aren't known yet.

And not to sound like the whiners on here who create a login for this forum for the sole purpose of complaing about how they just got screwed out of an Ableton discount deal, but Apple is discontining mobileme which costs $100 a year in favor of icloud which is free. They sent out an email yesterday explaining this and that charges will stop, BUT I just got charged my $100 the end of May and from what I can tell there is no refund.

I was reading an article on the iPad yesterday and I guess the developer was using HTML5 because there was a Flash-like animated advertisement that was distracting and annoying as fuck. A lot of times I double tap to zoom in on the text of the article so I can avoid the annoying distractions on the sides but this advertisement was embedded in the body of the article and zooming in made it all the more annoying.

I can’t wait for iOS 5 and Safari Reader. That’s going to make reading articles so much more enjoyable, although I don’t know if it would block out what the above dickhead site did.

Which is what's whack about the iOS 5 thing with taking pictures on the iPhone. It seems like you're going to have to make a decision after every photo you take (move it into a folder, or put it on the cloud, or do something else).

I still don't get the "Match" thing, but I doubt I'll go that route anyhow.

I guess if Apple didn't charge you for MobileMe in May, the blog-o-sphere would have blown up with nerdy specualtion. That really sucks though. They should give you credit toward iCloud space, and an update to the Schwarzonator 12.

It's the little things I like though. Resize windows from any edge in Lion. Mission Control looks good. $29 looks even better. The geographical reminder alerts in iOS 5 are going to be useful.

I gotta say, as advanced as OSX gets, it's also pretty bloaty now-a-days.

I watched the keynote yesterday but stopped just before the iCloud part, the thing was a little long for my taste even with my love of Apple. And really I think a lot about iCloud is going to have to be answered in practice. I think watching that part would cause more questions than answers, and a lot of what is going on in the industry right now seems to be geared towards those who don’t have high capacity needs or seem to enjoy spending there time picking and choosing what will only get them through the next day or a week. Even when companies offer more capacity for more money it’s nowhere near impressive, especially in a time of consumer terabyte drives.

I don't see the iCloud thing as a backup or user to user sharing solution per se, but more as the ultimate solution for brainless syncing and file sharing of your own devices. Sort of how Time Machine did the same thing for local backups. You turn it on, you forget about it. It's not so much about backing up your iTunes to the cloud, as it is about making it easier to get anything from your collection on any of your devices at any time.

I think as professionals or content creators, we are not really the main target audience yet for something like cloud storage, we just have too much data we need access to to make it feasible still.

But for your average computer user, this really does provide a super simple way to keep everything sync. Following the live blogging of the speech yesterday, I too was pretty skeptical of it all. But after watching the keynote last night, it definitely makes a lot more sense to me now. I'm sure it's just the first step too.

I had to research what delta updates are and found out it answers a question I had for awhile. Delta updates just add the data that is part of the update as opposed to downloading the complete app that includes both the existing and new data. This is awesome! I was wondering why updates seemed so damn huge.
