lack of bass? are you serious?

you might have heard them only in a shop, purely set up, genelecs are brutally fussy about the setup... but once you do it right... in my eyes the best monitor you can get (PMC being a very close contender)

ok, then buy the 7060B with it and you will tear down your house and before that having your neighbors jumping on your head every time you listen to music.

but whatever, buy what you want... i am a diehard genelec user (that includes knowing the system so well after so many years of working with them.... at home and in studios (love the 1032s / 8050s, including there custom built in series... which is from another planet, i feel) and i wish some manufacturer could change that and come up with something even better...

it took me half a year to get it 'perfect'
i did once a measuring with a Klark Teknik dn 6000 from work and then moving them in centimeters and millimeters to the right spot (distance to the wall, me, etc. + dip switch adjustment)

but it's well, well worth it.

What I meant is they seem to make everything sound amazing and always found it hard to mix on them because of that. But maybe I might get on with them better how as I am better than what I was when I was using them.

but man, this can be an endless discussion... you need to get used to any monitor... very important is to choose something you will use for at least a few years, best is to actually never change it... this is a vital part, knowing YOUR system... before a flame war on monitors evolves...

I haven't heard them, its just the spec made me think i.e. rolled off at 66 Hz ?
That's why I am mentioning it to understand

if only a spec of 66hz written on a tech sheet makes you deciding on a monitor system, then there is something 100% wrong.

go listen, listen a lot, a hell lot to a lot of different ones with a lot of different material, not just electronica, even if that is all you ever will do...
(i don't know, just saying)

and then decide. i know it's not easy and it's time consuming... but worth it!

not revealing it so hart and direct, they do have a little more home hifi speaker character in comparison... TO ME!

KRK, Dynaudio, Adam, PMC, etc. are all good quality products (even adams had times of problems giving out properly matched pairs, lack of quality control) and one likes that more and the other this...

also to me once i like acoustically a product many other aspects play a role on top of it, service, etc... and genelec for example guarantees a full service with ALL replacement parts minimum of 10 years after a product has been discontinued. that is worth a little higher investment, in my eyes!

Agree on the unforgiving nature of the Genelecs, that's why I bought them, because they were very different to my existing lovely Dynaudio hi-fi speakers. The Genelecs are, in comparison, really ruthless and direct. My mixing is still shit, mind, but with the Genelecs at least I know it already before it goes out the door.

it's a nice problem to have. I think the type of music someone is making and their approach can come into play, the kind of bass/mids/highs they find pleasing.

(maybe this can be moved to a new thread so this thread can be kept as pics. it is nice to read peoples' monitor impressions though.)
