I'm joking, but I'm not. Seriously H, there's more than a handful of absolute IT wizards at our company but I'll be fucked if they don't get completely flummoxed with anything Apple.

Then they storm off and declare Apple to be SHIT.

I seem to recall awhile back you being annoyed with people at your work always farting around with their iPhones. Are you noticing that same behavior with Android phones? Honest question, not being sarcastic.

Vista was SHIT. My comparing the Android OS with Vista is valid. I'm warming up more to Win7, and it's a far cry better of course than Vista. So...I'm not doing a broad generalization here...just Vista.

that's good news for everyone - including Apple.

no the only thing annoying about the iPhone at work for me has been that we can't do anything with it security wise... which is really bad news in health care. patient info has to be protected, including what time their surgery is... our docs want their Exchange calendars on so all that data is on the phone. the problem with Exchange (and other mail) on the iPhone is it's done by a pull not a push. so if the connection to the Exchange server goes down... then the iPhone goes into a panic i-need-new-data mode that basically means it's pinging the shit out of the server every couple of seconds or minutes (not sure on the exact time) but it is so adamant about it that it actually drains the battery fairly quickly and causes the phone to heat up. that's usually how we find out that the server is being rebooted.

Android is no better though (as far as i know) we haven't had any issues with Android phones other that the first doc who got one... he wanted to get rid of it because it weighed a ton. and it did. it was a Motorola brick, but that was well over a year ago maybe more like 2 so... shits done changed.

I’ve heard of issues about trying to use iPhones for business purposes like you can with a blackberry, but it’s not something I’ve personally had to deal with. It sounds like Apple is making improvements but have been slow to move…possibly as a result of wanting to do everything in house and taking business away from third party companies. They’re probably reluctantly admitting it’s more than they want to deal with or would take more time than they thought.

from a purely business and security perspective... Blackberrys are much better phones. i setup a Blackberry Torch (it has a lot of touch screen option but still has a hardware keyboard if you don't care for touch) for a doc about 2 weeks ago and it was really nice.

from an end user perspective/experience the iPhone is fukin sweet.

the only thing (besides security) from the actual end user perspective/experience that allows RIM and their Blackberry to smoke an iPhone right now is the fact that you get full mail/calendar on your phone, not some crap ass web version/site, but the real deal. if you have a Blackberry server it connects with your Exchange server and then it literally serves the mail. so you get a message sent to your phone instead of the phone acting like a dog that wants you to throw the ball that keeps running up to your feet (or crotch) and begging for more. the biggest disadvantage here is that if the connection to the mail server is lost on an iPhone, so is your mail... meaning that you cannot open any messages until it re-connects. so this means lots of phone calls and bitching and moaning for the guys in the IT department since the user can't even see what was already there (anymore).

oh and on a BTW side note... if the company pays for your phone and you want an app that isn't free you...???

Nearly every Blackberry owner I know hates their phone. And we've got a ton of them.

I think Apple has all the software you’d need to run a business if you’re an entirely Apple based company, but I think as a FU to Apple competitors have no incentive to make/allow Apple software to be cross platform. Like you’ll never see iWorks available on Windows or Android OS. Also companies are extremely slow to change tech.

I’ll be doing on my resume on Pages but will have to save it in Word format…with the exception of my resume to Apple.

I still find it hilarious that the iWorks suite is available for the iPhone. It’s quite adorable looking at templates on the tiny screen and trying to churn out a presentation or document on the spot.

My boss got a new iPhone from the new owner even though he already has one. They are a small company so I can only assume he has to activate it with his own credit card if he wants to put apps on it because he'll only need the standard stock apps for work. There are plenty of large corporations that allow their employees to have iPhones so I'm sure Apple has something in place that will keep employees from going ape shit with app purchases if it's on the company's dime.

^ well you have to put your own CC info into iTunes, so maybe that's the trick?? personally getting shit canned or reamed is motivation enough for me, but some employees know how to play stupid better than others.

yeah, i was speaking from a strictly business perspective. after using my girlfriend's Samsung... i'm hooked. i've been growing increasingly "over" my Blackberry and i've now reached the brink.
