Re: iPad
any one had a go with turning the ipad into a trackpad for the mac? works a treat and should be awesome for lion.
Re: iPad
I don't know WTF is going on with iTunes right now but when you made purchases they would collect all your purchases over a couple days, charge you, and send you 1 receipt for everything. This weekend they've been charging each purchase separately and sending a separate receipt for every individual purchase.

Re: iPad
A friend of mine has offered me his iPad2 at a very reasonable price, however, i'm not sure if I want it as the Blackberry Playbook looks more interesting.....
Can anyone help me out? What are the major benefits of each tablet?

Stop. You're killing me.
There's not one damn thing that looks more interesting on an alternative tablet to the iPad. Even a top exec at RIM sent a note to management letting them know they fucked it up and there's good reason Apple is kicking ass.
But please get one. I can't wait to here about it.

Re: iPad
Not even the fact that it's got a better OS, (QNX has been going for longer than linux), more RAM, and according to the reviews, is overall, much faster. Then add to it all the higher quality cameras used by the playbook.beats me wrote: Stop. You're killing me.

Plus the playbook is due to run Android apps as well as flash......
So I disagree, the blackberry has a lot going for it

Then get one and report back. If those reasons are good enough for you then go for it.
We have yet to get one good user review on here of a competitor tablet. Well, actually any review good or bad would be nice.

Of course you do because you buy 1 app a month after much soul searching.

Re: iPad
+1 for getting the Playbook and reporting back.
I can tell you that I have now dicked around with every major tablet on the market and, regardless of the specs saying how BLAZINGLY FAST something is, the actual experience with anything but an iPad has been sorely lacking. I picked up a Xoom and was waiting to cum in my shorts based on all the hype but instead was just annoyed at all the unnecessary SHIT on the screen and how Android seems to revel in obtuse ways of navigating.
To me, tablets are like women. I'll know in the first fucking 5 seconds if it's something that I'll want to spend any amount of time with past the initial petting stage.

Re: iPad
I've got the Alesis iO Dock on my desk right now. Been messing around with the iPad Garageband for an hour or two. The iO Dock seems okay, but I can't really dig into it too much. I'm at work, stuck in the cubicle. It needs an adapter to be compatible with the iPad 2, and the early release unit I have here didn't come with the iPad 2 adapter. However, new units will be shipping with the adapter.
So I needed to borrow a co-worker's iPad 1 to test it out, and the only music app they have is Garageband. Garageband has been kind of flakey. It's crashed 3 or 4 times. It's kind of fun to mess around with, however, it's pretty goofy,
What other apps are decent for recording audio and messing with it? I've got a mic, a cable, and some headphones. Nanostudio? Fruity?
...as far as other tablets go, the guy next to me is doing tablet shoot out. He's got the Asus Transformer and yesterday he fired up a new HP TouchPad. Personally, I think the Asus is kind of neat. The keyboard/battery accessory is nice - turns it into a little netbook. I like that it ships with productivity apps. The TouchPad took a little getting used to, but he said after using it for a day that he liked it better than the Asus. The guy doing the review owns an iPad 1.
I think Apple is king of the hill now, and will remain for a while, but if Google and HP keep developing their platforms, there will be good products all over the place. If you're into making music, the iPad is the only game in town.

Re: iPad
I was hoping/praying/dreaming that the iO Dock would also be a USB audio interface, but in googling around about it (asking Alesis' or Sweetwater's support directly have not been helpful), it looks like this isn't the case.
In fact, the only confirmation I can find that this *isn't* possible is from LSZ, over on Minijack. MEH.
When I play live, I mainly use the iPad as an instrument, controlling VSTs in Live on the MBP, so I have to use an outboard USB interface (in this case a Toneport UX1). So to use the iO Dock live, I'd need to hook up even more gear, and have space for laying everything out, more cabling, etc.
If this iO Dock could also handle USB audio, I'd order one this instant.
LSZ, have you heard anything else about this possible iConnect MIDI 2?
