there is NO graceful way of falling off of it. You slip off the side, you're hitting the ground... or the wall, in my case. The wall is sturdy enough. My shoulders, however, are already feeling quite sore.

A special salute to the guy who intentionally ran me off the road a few minutes ago, forcing me to have to bail and take a nasty spill onto the sidewalk.

I'm ok. Slightly banged up. Right hand hurting like a bitch, since by reflex I used it to soften the fall. Bike is fine. Nothing warped. Nothing bent. Only the right side pedal got scuffed up and some of the bar tape got teared up.

I got lucky. The pain in the hand will subside. I'm actually more pissed about the pedal. It was brand new! FUCKER. Image

glad to hear it, you'll heal. ;)

all you can do is let it go and maybe there's a lesson on riding. wear a helmet and gloves. even if you can get back at the fucker it only makes things worse. not that I haven't popped rear view mirror or dented a few quarter panels.

it's been rainy here, haven't been riding much, lost my cardio. I figure it'll be about 2 months to get back to 'all day riding' shape. I just map out my old long rides in my head. sigh. :(

...at least I have my geetar!!! \m/

Here's a funny little thing I saw today...

http://twitpic.com/10ksod

Lance Armstrong's mountainbike after a race - apparently it went from 22 lbs (start) to 32 (finish) due to the mud. I've been in races where I've picked up similar amounts of mud - didn't realise that it made so much difference to the weight - that must have made the difference between second-to-last place and last place, for me... :D

Yeah, I've been riding at places in the winter where you get so much mud on the bike it doubles the weight. Sucks. :)

Holy hell, that's a lot of mud.

I've been having a good run with the rollers lately. Even been able to pull off a few seconds of hands-free riding. :P It's been entertaining... but of course it never compares to actually riding out, in terms of fun.

Been hella cold so I haven't been taking the bike out much. I did take it to work last thursday. Had a bit of a mishap. See, there was a bit of slack in the crotch area of the jeans I was wearing. Somehow it got caught up on the tip of the saddle and as I dismounted at one point, I heard a loud rrrrrrrrrrrrpppffffffffffff. And lo and behold... a big-ass gaping rip in all the way to the ass area of the pants. Luckily, this happened on the way back home. Sadly, I was still in manhattan at this point, so I ended up exposing my underwear to a lot of people on the way back to brooklyn. Good thing I wasn't wearing tighty whities.

In before the "this doesn't belong in the general section" crew... Well this is an old thread, so have someone move it to the lounge then, whiners.

mud riding! fun times. you have to keep moving fast enough to flick the mud off or it jams the wheels against the frame and you have to hike it, with a 50lb bike. we used to do that then go riding home through the suburbs, leaving a looooooong trail of mud down the middle of the street grinning like psyhotic skunks with stripes on our backs. of course the mud trails showed everyone exactly where we lived, the neighbors were not happy.

got a bike rack today. my rides have been short 20 milers, I'm so far from the summer when I was easily doing 50-60 mile rides. the wife is training for a marathon, the idea is we can drive up to Marin and take in the scenery while I bike and she runs.

I was shopping for cycling pants and found a weird link on Amazon. search Amazon for cycling pants, you get this book:

wtf?

can't wait for those warm summer nights when the sun sets at 9pm. every day gets a little longer. I daydream constantly about those rides.

good thread, it motivates.

edit - this is a nice site with Armstrong's bikes he's selling for his charity. on one bike "the artist also included an inspirational
message which is handwritten across the bike's frame: 'never forget your beginner's spirit', visible only to armstrong as his head is deep in an aerodynamic tuck.

I was thinking of "leave it on the road" which hopefully doesn't pertain to skin and blood, just don't go home with energy or 'drama' in my head. ride it out.

tonights pedicab tales:

i dropped of 3 people at their car tonight..
they gave me a very shitty tip..
i then burned off and started heading back to get another ride
about half way up the 5th street hill i check my rear and see a car
not slowing down or changing lanes..
so i dodge left
turn my head to the right and spit on the car..
thats when i noticed it was the douchbags that i gave a ride to..
so i catch them at the light and yell at them till i get bored..

now imagine if that car would have hit me..
shitty tipping douchbags run down a pedicaber lol
hey California come get all your douchbags
i miss the way Austin used to be before it doubled in population

bikes, mpcs and abletons.

whats not to like?

I've continued to spend so much money on the bike that it's just crazy. New SRAM crankset, new Velocity wheels... and I've actually thought about getting a new frame altogether (mine feels slightly small-ish at times). Good thing is, I could easily sell my current frame to offset the cost of a new one.

But, do I want to get into that right now? Decisions, decisions...

Nate, I may be interested in buying your crank if you are interested in selling for the bike I am building in Michigan.

What color Velocity's did you get?

Post a new pic up son!

Nice! Sounds like a plan. I'll hit you up once I've switched it with the new one.

The new velocity's are teal

I'll have pics of the bike with the new gear on soon
