hahahaha.
A) he didn't laugh at anything
B) i think he was just remarking that the poor performance was due to the Celeron processor
C) he also owns an AMD64, and i'd think therefore can't be baited into any mac vs. pc debates.
D) Considering you can get 3 of those for the price of a G4 (as you say) that performs more than twice as effecient... its not really that much better of a deal then isn't it?
E) smile!!!

yep, it was originally a 533mhz G4. reborn as the 1.47ghz. that's why the 2mb L3 cache was relevant.AdamJay wrote:i'm pretty sure the stock 1.4ghz G4 PM came with 7200rpm HD.
if it was upgraded to 1.4ghz from an earlier PowerMac, then the slowest it would be stock is 5400rpm. My old G4 400mhz was 5400rpm.
still, good performance for a G4, considering.
but.. cool. i had honestly never looked, just assumed my 40gb internal stock hd from 2001 was a measley 4200. would be nice if that t'werent the case.

Laugh at my cheap ass computer all you want, it does the job and I could comfortably have bought three of them for the price of your G4.
(I originally said four, but I just checked the prices of Mac, they're cheaper than I though.)
er, yeah. what he said.AdamJay wrote:hahahaha.

stating "celeron" is not some kind of personal affront. it's commentary on the fact that the architecture of the celeron chip makes it so horrible for things like music, as evidenced by your experiences in this test. maybe i should laugh that you're trying to use a celeron for such things... but that's not what i was doing.
'smile' is good advice.
I think you're using a less power consuming scheme on the Z1 since I have the same machine but with the 1.5 gHz processor and a better performance. Put the power scheme on full power and you'll get much more juice out of the machine.unearthed123 wrote:- 1 -

Hi AdamJay, I just got back from Japan and Canada and now in Seattle ready to think about building a LIVETOWER (definitely AMD, thanks for the advice!)
I am going to leave this computer on all the time, only running LIVE,
and although you had already given me your advice before, I would surely appreciate it again! (things may have changed in 3 months, prices, new processors etc). As I am only using it for LIVE maybe some things (like video card, DVD burner) can be sacrificed... With the best price/performance ratio, what would you buy for a livesystem that could run everything in realtime (playing full chords on VSTIs with lots of effects running and clips going full throttle)...basically after the MAC fiasco (I love my mac but not for live) its time to experience no dropouts! My only request is that there be a firewire connection for my FA-101. Thanks a lot!!!!
sincerely

honestly i think the best deal would be the AMD laptop drush is selling on this forum for $1300. fast cpu, and you can get a 100GB 5400rpm drive for $170
to swap out.

my Sony Z1 using Echo Indigo io
repeated my test with Sony Z1 with Echo Indigo:
Sony Z1 laptop:
1) 27% peak (jumps between 25 - 27%
2) Laptop Sony Z1
3) Windows XP Professional SP2
4) Intel Centrino 1.5 gHz
5) 1 GB Ram
6) Indigo io
7) 5400rpm (probably don't even know exactly)
Latency was both 6 ms on input and output, making 12 in total.
Changin latency to 2 ms on input and output, making 4 in total seems to add 1% more CPU usage.
I am still happy with machine. Extreme power and super quiet.
