That explains the general phenom, but using the classic face on Mars example is a bit suspect. The new pass was apparently super filtered to obscure any detailing. Now I'm all for extreme filtering, but they basically went Crimewatch and blurred out the face. I don't mean to get all myrnova about it, but the BBC is hopeless at explaining things nowadays. A few years back I was listening to a Radio 4 documentary about the Rendlesham Forest incident - US troops chasing strange lights thru the woods of a nuclear missile site - and they explained it away as being both a meteor AND a lighthouse. Something is up when Photek makes a better documentary than a multi-billion pound broadcaster.
