At least you have a 'Friday', I've been off work for about a month. My client list isn't long enough to be recession proof. :? Trying to figure out how to not sell gear....

Cool how so many people voted for Pink Floyd -Animals
I though everybody would have chosen Dark Side or The Wall. Also cool that people still respect Pink Floyd.

Some of mine were already taken-- in terms of invoking memories, smiles and such....,

1) Every Picture Tells a Story-- Rod Stewart
2) Abraxas-- Santana
3) Land of the Midnight Sun -- Al DiMeola
4) Rock n Roll Animal-- Lou Reed
5) First Seven Days -- Jan Hammer

But Frank Zappa's Apostrophe, King Crimson Lark's Tongues in Aspic, Blue Oyster Cult, Red and Black... musically these made an impression on me.

... Dark Side of the Moon was already mentioned a bunch of times but is really up there... Stone's Let it Bleed...

The Modern Lovers eponymous, Talking Heads' fear of music....

so many. did I break the rules?

If you said 'great electronic albums' the answers would include different things, but I think in terms of all time greats, the vintage rock classics have to be considered.

It's kinda funny whenever I do these lists. It's kinda like trying to make a 5 song mixtape that sums up who you are musically. There is usually one selection that many would agree is a fantastic album, then you try to find an album close to your heart that might make others cringe just so you avoid being marginalized as a "follower". How many of you look at other people's lists and go "oh crap! that guy totally wins! I should've thought of that!" :-) I wish I could do one of these without my ego getting involved, but I think this list is a pretty honest selection.

1. Sunny Day Real Estate - How it Feels to be Something On (Diary changed my life in High school, but then I hated this record when it came out. After about a year or two I realized how stupid I was.)

2. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (I never new music could be this awesome. And I mean that in the biblical sense)

3. Fugazi - The Argument (My favorite Fugazi record. To bad haven't made any more since this!)

4. Van Dyke Parks - Song Cycle (I've never heard anything quite like this album before or after)

5. Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn (I think he read my as yet unborn mind and made music specifically for me!)

...a small selection...

Patti Smith: Horses
Glenn Gould: Goldberg Variations
Toumani Diabate & Ballake Sissoko: New Ancient Strings

...and a recent one that has stomped straight into the 'best album ever' section of my brain...

Grace Jones: Hurricane

I'd forgotten about this thread until today when I was searching for a post I made this morning. 19 pages, pretty cool. And a whole lot of music got passed around, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

So, I'm gonna bump this again. Not to mention, My list has changed around a little bit since 2006. Beck's Sea Change is still #1 and increases its lead pretty much every time I listen to it. I'm kicking myself for not checking out that Serge Gainsbourg album mentioned early on as that was a majorly heavy claim on it.

Anyways, my updated list, the other 4 not in any particular order...

Image
Sea Change - Beck

Image
Lost Souls - Doves

Image
Lush - Gala

Image
Serena Maneesh - Serena Maneesh

Image
Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place

And some honorable mentions just for kicks:

Solid Air - John Martyn
One World - John Martyn
Goodbye - Ulrich Schnauss
Isn't Anything - My Bloody Valentine
The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
When The Smoke Clears - Three Six Mafia
Ascend - Manual
Lost Days, Open Skies and Streaming Tides - Manual

...and a whole bunch of Antonio Vivaldi, for when I need a head cleaner. What can I say -- music's like a huge buffet, may as well try a little of everything. :)
