Just like someone already pointed out it's not the glossy box or the number of Virtual instruments that you should look at. It's the way a tool (the software) it's inspirational about making music. Let's not forget that. We all make music here. In my experience Live was a rebirth. I wasn't making music so much in the last years. My SoundBlaster and Cubase SX 2 gave me the creeps so I went on buying an external FW Audio that contained Live 4 Lite. Suddenly my creativity got a hit, a bust, just like a slap on the face. I jumped on Live 5 special upgrade offer and then Live 6 upgrade. Since then I simply can't stop making music and having fun. Even if I do not perform on stage with Live, but I have gigs as a Bass Player in a band, the session view, coupled with the arrangement view really improved the way I make music. Give me LogicStudio half the price, the creative flow will stop. Do you want to spend 500 bucks in real amazing sounds? There's a lot of things out there. Do you need a piano? Truepianos. No samples, no note limit, 57 MB. It's the new frontier. Who needs big samples anyway? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsd2SJThgjU

Sure it looks that for 500 bucks they're giving you a lot of things. Are they worth it? Concentrate on what you use and what you really need to make your music better. I got external hardware that's enough for me.
Sure the Abes will take a hit, but they are smart and clever I think we should expect something.

ok, jokes and rants aside, I got my upgrade today...

Took forever and a day to install. Fair enough. It's about 40 gigs, for fuck's sake!



Anyways, new interface improvements = awesome. good enough to make it feel like an entirely new version of logic, yet it still feels like... well... logic. Thumbs up on that. Great software bundle. HUGE sample/loop library... etc etc etc. It is definitely worth the money.


My only 2 complaints...

1) the library installment options aren't as flexible as i expected them to be. I mean, only a few of the audio library elements could be installed on an externa HD while i was pretty much forced to install the rest on my internal HD.

2) It's not clear to me. Should I have uninstalled Logic pro 7 first? do I uninstall it now? I just want to free up as much space as possible in my internal HD :/


Any help on this? Logic 7 users even? Shouldn't be much of a difference between the file handling systems of versions 7 and 8, right?

Once again... help!

I'd expect you could use 'm next to each other. Just in case you'd encounter a bug or something.

you can install all of the content any place you want to,, use the custom install option. There is a more detailed explanation on the sonikmatter site from Oscwilde,, check it out.

So Audition was an inappropriate comparisson to make. Logic really looks then more like a composition programme, using the Apple Loops and bundled instruments. So it is more in competition with Live, not Audition. And I for one will be sticking with Live because I love the unique Session View approach.

That means I can more easily take your very good advice:

mack music with what your comfertable with and quit wasting energy on worrying about apples marketing plans

According to Schoeben, there are only four features that separate Logic Pro from Logic Express. They are: surround sound, distributed audio, high-end control surface support and TDM support.

Just go to the Logic Pro spec list and ignore these four features. This means that you can actually get all of the Logic plug ins for $200

I hate to be the one to start, or at least, pass on this rumor, but word is this will be added to the next update to 8,, more to that word is that that update isn't to far away.

Yeah i read that.. def going to get express - only £100

On the UK Apple site Logic Studio is £319. In the US it is $499.
Using the XE currency converter $499=£247.

Aqua, I know what you're talking about, people kept telling me to do the custom install, but they don't realize that things like the Jam Packs HAVE to initially be installed on the internal drive. There's just no way to specify a different location during the install. However, Gamat at BigBlueLounge helped me with this advice (works great):

you can install your jam pack and find them in your os X HD
(in LP7 it s in your home library / audio / apple loops)
after that you can copy them in another HD (with all your other apple loops)
thrash the apple loops index files in the folder "apple loops index" (near the apple loops folder)
Open Logic and the loop browser
and drag and drop all your apple loops folders (all the defferent folders) on the loop browser
Logic will ask you if you want to import and copy all the loops in your systeme HD or just index them
choose "just index"

Yeah you need to install them on the internal drive first, and then copy them, but they work fine after doing the above. Don't even bother trying the older alias trick, dosen't work, Logic won't index the loops still. Loving it, good stuff in this release, it's clear the code underneath is cleaned up, everything operates much smoother and more predictably for me now.

C'mon this is with all products not just with this, and it is a pretty fair exchange for once. Look at Ableton - EUR549 & USD599 !!!!

That's interesting - where can I find out more about that? I presume it's part of EU legislation? Just curious.
