Oh well, it's really not that bad, I guess I was just pissed by the higher performance of the newer Macs. :)

Runs REAL nice. Asus p5W DH mobo, Nvidia GF7300GT, Siig FW400 TI chipset PCI.
my 8-core 2,8GHz Mac Pro result is 19% :?: but activity monitor shows only 9%. Sometimes I get even bigger difference f.e. (Live 39%, AM 15%). checked this with Logic 8 and got these results:

18x
Stereo Audio Track with stereo drum loop 16/44100 (no warp) + 4x Artsacoustic Reverb default preset + 1x SSL4000 G-Channel Stereo (Waves)

+ the same 4+1 strip on Master Channel

= 76x Artsacoustic Reverb on Insert + 19x G-Channel SSL4000

with my Firewire card on 256 samples, Latency Delay Compensation ON:

IN LOGIC 8.0.2 cca 50% of whole CPU, no drops, audio sounds clean
IN LIVE 7.0.7 89% CPU LOAD!!!, sound absolutely broken

Activity monitor showed the same value in both tests (41-45%)

Live is CPU hog and there is no reason update Quadra core systems to 8-core if you stay with Live

Ok I was so upset with my test.

1st

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter 54%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? early 2007 17" iMac 2.0
3) Operating System? Leopard 10.5.4
4) Ableton Live version? Live 7.0.9

6) Amount of Ram? 3G
7) Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? Coreaudio
8- Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? 5400rpm
9) Number of playback tracks? 8

Okay I just purchased a new Macbook Pro and couldn't wait to see a much lower CPU %

:x Ableton Live CPU Meter 72%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? early 08 Macbook Pro 15" 2.5 Penryn chip
3) Operating System? Leopard 10.5.4
4) Ableton Live version? Live 7.0.9
5) CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 15" Macbook Pro 2.5 Intel Core 2 Duo

8- Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? 7200rpm
9) Number of playback tracks? 8

I was concerned I called Sweetwater where I purchased the MB Pro and they had the theory that laptops conserve and cut corners due to heating issues and the size. I wasn't buying it and then I guess it does make sense. I just noticed other test you guys got much better results with your /MB Pro and thought that something had gone a rye. The Sweetwater Mac Tech did tell about Xbench which I did try this.

http://www.xbench.com/

My results were better for my MB Pro 129 vs iMac 118. Very resourceful site that gives a lot of info about your system.

At first I thought maybe my Kingston Ram that I upgraded had gone a rye, but the Mac Tech said he used to sale Kingston and really liked the company they have been around for at least 15 years or longer..

I don't know it seems like such a difference in performance.
