I'm not jailbreaking anything but specifically what games can you play?

MAME is an arcade game emulator.

It'll play pretty much any arcade game ever put out at this point. I don't know how modern it is, but at least up through the late 90s.

bro that could be a coincidence, but it's more likely that it was a subtle warning. "we can see you". a tech typically asks or warns someone first rather than randomly taking over. the real coincidence is probably just that you happened to be misbehaving when they found you.

tread light.
There's 1 IT guy setting up about 30 new computers remotely so he doesn't have the time for niceties. All last week he was randomly taking over computers without warning.

I have a full DVD-Rom with games for mame that go up to the early 2000's.

Say no more, if I seriously loved iCade, the first thing I would go for is MAME support.
I'd jailbreak it in a heartbeat.

You're going to have some issues when it comes to games that need more than 2 buttons or whatever amountiCade doesn't support. Those NeoGeo games all have at least like 6 buttons, right?
And how would you play SmashTV? Some settings you can change in MAME itself, but I don't think it'd be too helpful with an iPad.

I guess I don't get this MAME thing. There's an app called MAME and within that there's a bunch of games pre-loaded, like the Atari app?

The iCade has 8 buttons, 4 on top of 4.

It would be great for Rock Band. For guitar you could have it so joystick left and right would trigger notes and then the top 4 buttons. For bass just use the 4 buttons and for drums use all 8. 8O

Well here's a real kicker. Epic Games' Unreal Engine is behind some of the best graphics on idevices (Epic Citadel, Infinity Blade). Third party developers can buy a license for their SDK but you can only program with it on a Windows PC. :x

Here's an app that's like Pandora but for your music library that is on your iPad. It uses last.fm's database to build playlists of songs you have stored on your iPad it feels would go good together and also provides information about the tracks and artists that aren't part of normal tagging. It's great if you own way too much damn music but always find yourself listening to the same tracks because you're too lazy to explore your own library.

But if you're like me (you're not) you don't have much room for music on your iPad because it's crammed full of apps. :x

Since I bought my iPad2 at Best Buy on launch day, that pushed me up to premier silver status. Well one of the perks is six months of free Napster. I've had an XM radio subscription for three years and Napster blows it out of the water. I'm rediscovering all my old seventies bands. And the loopback feature on my Focusrite 24 Pro is really handy.

Beats:
Mame is just the application, it doesn't contain the games. Each game is a rom, which is essentially a "rip" from the arcade chip that is the game. So, you could get whatever game you want individually ie "Forgotten Worlds[US].rom" or you could find a bundle like "All Mame Roms 1980-2000". It's common for a lot of games to have different revisions and Japanese versions also.

So if iCade has 8 buttons(woohoo!) then they planned well.

scutheotaku wrote:I really wish Rhapsody would come out with an iPad app. As of now they only have a sub-par iPhone/iPod app, and there's one big problem - it considers the iPad a mobile device. What this means is that 1. it costs $5 (or maybe $10) extra a month to actually use it, 2. you can only have 1 mobile device per account, no matter what (so you would have to choose between your iPhone/Android, iPod, and iPad).

As LoopStationZebra would say... :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

I tried web based Rhapsody and didn't like it. Too much music missing and the song quality and volume levels were all over the map even on the same album.

There's an app that is kind of like a combo of Pandora and Rhapsody. Don't remember what it is right now so I'll have to post later.
