oh well I'm that much closer.
Indeed. The main issue as I see it is as far as music apps is there is no set standard for ALL music apps to share data with each other or with your computer(s) and there's no folder type location on an idevice where you can just store everything and point your music apps to it. It's all on an app per app basis and whatever method they choose to use.LoopStationZebra wrote:starving student wrote:gotcha , I use dropbox for everything, I dunno I guess I'm not keen on giving up the immediacy for using shit like dropbox just to transfer files between machines but then again its somethin to get used to if that's what you gotta do.

If you like dropbox, check out the iPad app called GoodReader. It remains the best app I've ever bought. It can basically read any kind of file..PowerPoint, PDF, video, jpg, Word, Excel, etc etc. And it's got an excellent connection with your DropBox account so's you can grab things without ever syncing.
If that's not enough, it gives you a standard Mac/Windows type file structure. Add or move folders in whatever structure you wish, lock those folders with password protection, etc.
Fucking BRILLIANT.
And I hate to say it, but this is why music apps on the ipad are still toys. I can't seriously get a decent library of sounds on it to use in my apps. And I just haven't found the time to invest in figuring a way that actually works for me to be able to store and use audio files. I'm sure there are things I don't know about.beats me wrote:Indeed. this is quite disturbing, I shudder to think that it's even possible that this is the only type of thing that there apparently is not a freakin app for? what happen to there's an app for everythingglitchrock-buddha wrote:

For example, say I record some random sound with voice memos. How do I get that into Nanostudio or Beatmaker? They can each record a sample but what if you don't know which app you're going to use it with? Are there third party apps for this kind of thing or does the system just plain suck? And why can't I name my friggin voice memo recordings? Is there a better recording app I should be using (preferrably one that magically can have it's audio files used by other apps)?

starving student wrote:but wouldn't you think that at least regarding music apps that this would be a no brainer issue, if getting audio in and out of your 'music' app is an afterthought well fuck somebody get peter kirn on the telly and tell him to write an article about this issue
isn't this what you signed up for? Apple will tell you what the best way is... not the other way around. The fact that you want to think different is ok as long as you think the same as Apple right? well, for consumers anyway... apparently for devs... not so much.beats me wrote:starving student wrote:this is quite disturbing, I shudder to think that it's even possible that this is the only type of thing that there apparently is not a freakin app for? what happen to there's an app for everythingglitchrock-buddha wrote:

The problem is that there are multiple methods but all the music app developers can’t get together and decide on just one and when developing an app it’s probably an afterthought and maybe depends on the selfishness of the developer.
So far as an ipad owner, my pick still goes only to my laptop. I feel like I'm suffocating as soon as I start playing with any music apps that are meant to actually write music (ie,beside single synths like morphwhiz). But it's great as a control surface for things like touchable and the orb, that's for sure.beats me wrote:
