if rick's peaked at 37 for a dual 2.0 and bigbadotis was 41 for a single 2.1 IMac that's an interesting result - it seems to show that the dual core is slightly better for live despite Live not being built for it - no where near double though!

Seems about right as my dual core G5 2.3ghz bounced between 30% and 34% which is only about 10% faster (even though the cpu is 15% faster).

Hi Warpus,

Maybe you wanna edit your entry to "30% - 34%", or just "34%". AdamJay asked for the peak value if the CPU meter bounced around. Based on CPU alone I'd expect yours to peak at 32%, given that mine peaked at 37% i.e. ((2 / 2.3) * 37). The extra 2% you experienced could be down to your USB audio interface.

Crikey! I can't believe I'm discussing such CPU minutiae. If I go any further down that road, I'll be trading in my Mac for a PC "Snap out of it Rick. You bought a Mac for the overall computing experience, NOT just CPU".

Rick, I just switched from Mac to PC and now back to Mac again with my new G5. And while I did appreciate the extra CPU power my PC had, I really found it to be more trouble than it was worth. I found that my system needed constant care and fine tuning (and troubleshooting). I was amazed that when I connected all my gear to the new G5 it only took me about 5 minutes to tweak it to a level of reliable performance that I was never quite able to achieve with my Dual 3.6Ghz Xeon after several hours of effort.

I had some spare time and made this simple report. People who submitted a range of cpu utilization I used the average number.

** I didn't have time to average EVERY submission of the same CPU make/model/speed. Takes more time than I have available. **

hey mark...great edit you did...but...ARE SURE???

cause me,i got P4 with 3.06 ghz had something like 50-60% bouncing around...and you got that in your list at 37%...just wondering cause i didn´t see any P4 with such good results to make my one not to be appeard...or did you just take out a few result from a handfull users??

HOW DOES THE CENTRINO or PENTIUM M based LAPTOPS REACT,
IF YOU START WORKING WITH HUGEVSTPLUGINS...
(thinking of reaktor,minimoog,waves,ms-20,polysix,fm7
or the arturia modularsystem...just to name a few)

whats then the best choice???

CENTRINO/PENTIUM M or P4/AMD64 ?
