to me the best monitors money can buy, second to me are PMC, dynaudio i also do kinda like, but i am the ultimate genelec fanatic, i worked with pretty much all major monitor manufactures and different models from them... the 8000 series from genelec and the 1032a are by far my faves.
you can give me any bigger or more expensive monitor from any other manufacturer (well, except some of the PMC models) and i would not trade them in, the clarity, preciseness and stereo / depth field they reveal is unmatched. it is not all about bass.
and i certainly do not miss any bottom end with them whatsoever. (well i don't like mixing with subs anyway, for listening yes, but for mixing for me it's a no)
EDIT: be careful about the size... bigger is not automatically better, it depends very much on your room size and your typical listening position distance... you find a good guide what makes sense and what not on the genelec website...

well i don't think it is that bad, i think you get a pair for around 900,- euros?
i don't know exactly, me lucky bugger get a lot of special deals and 'sponsoring', but however they are worth it, every last damn penny of them, IMO.
to make me part with them you would have to shoot me. they are the main reason i can spot almost immediately most of the mistakes / weaknesses if people ask me for mixing / production advise... well and that i learned over the years what and how to listen for.

Heh. Everytime I'm ready to plunk down serious coin for some Genelec's I always get distracted by a new guitar or amp that I simply MUST have, lol. No dispute with the quality, though. The 8030s are crisp and clear.

Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...
well , no one ever has complained about lack of bass in either my mixes or at houseparties where i am always scared that the walls will tumble down, because everrything is shaking (and that is absolute no joke, you have no idea how loud they can play, it hurts, but not from distortionfunky shit wrote:ouch.# Free field frequency response: 58 Hz - 20 kHz (+/- 2 dB)
besides for me one of the major points liking genelec's over other monitors is the stereo and depth field they reveal and precision, (well next to other attributes, like you get service for at least 10 years guaranteed after a model has been discontinued... ) it is as i said already not only about bass... but this is turning into a monitor fanboy thread... let's keep it gear porn pics and cats
