Yeah, supported apps here:

Sure, that's alright. But you are copying from one to the other. So you're duplicating things. It still does nothing for having a shared library of samples for use in different apps like Beatmaker and Nanostudio. :x

Ya. They are cool. And you're right, as a standalone synth/groovebox there are some nifty things. But as far as sequencing goes, I can't take it too seriously, even though I tried. And I love Nanostudio and Beatmaker. I just need to be able to access my own samples easily and not import them to specific apps.

Yeah, I see what you're saying now, glitch. You're right. What's needed is just a SAMPLE LIBRARY APP, lol. A big fucker that you can simply pull from out of any app.

But doesn’t that only work copying 1 sound at a time from 1 app to another? Or at least that’s what it sounds like, an active clipboard.

What we need is an audio file storage app. So let’s say you made 16 different drum samples in a drum app. You can import them all to a central storage app where you can name, tag, and put them in a filed structure. And using any music app you can grab from that storage app as well. All with never leaving the iPad or going to the cloud.

That.

That's what I just said in my last post. An audio repository app. :x

And getting audiocopy/audiopaste going on many different apps as a standard was no small feat; as you can well imagine. MOUNTAINS HAD TO BE MOVED.

jebus, i really dig you guys and all, but do you "listen to yourself" or in this case read yourselves sometimes??

a common directory... you could call it something creative like "samples" and then point the fucking apps at it.

Yes. And no. A sample specific app would let you tag, categorize, and browse samples in a way that you can’t do with a normal computer file structure. It would be like Kore. Even better if you could open up that app within a music app.

And sorry if you guys said something like this before my post, but we were obviously all typing/thinking the same thing at the same time.

APPLE WON'T LET US HAVE ANYTHING LIKE A SHARED FOLDER.

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

Hence....THE SHARED APP.

Actually, something like GoodReader might be perfect as a container. Just create a folder in the app to hold your shit. Point the music apps to those samples.

ok... so, on a Mac is there a shared VST folder? yes.

so, why is this concept so far fetched on an iPad... and more to the point, why is it so hard to implement yourself?

i get it that an app may not have an option to store samples in a custom folder (app flaw), but does the iPad?? you can create a folder right?

c'mon fam don't tell me I took the beat thang back to soon

I want something so simple and easy.......

take out ipad, walk over to turntable/mixer, plug into ipad and sample records,
take ipad with me out the door, order hot apple cider, take out ipad/headphones, edit/slice samples
pull out mpc-500 (which registers to any other machine through a usb cable as a compact flash drive)
plug mpc into ipad, copy edited samples onto flash drive, sequence delicious groove, take another sip of hot cider, think to myself life is good :(

^ go back and get the Beat Thang.

i bet you can make a folder with it.

besides even though it costs 3 times as much as an iPad you won't be saving any money when you get done buying all the cables, accessories and apps... oh and not to mention that you have to have a wireless plan just to move a file. at least if you're internet is down the Beat Thang can still do it's thangy.

 or :x it don't matter.

Didn't they have apps like that for iphone and ipod before pad even came out? How could they not have such a thing by now?
At least for sampling. I assumed itunes would've been the best bet for an all encompassing sample library that just needed a universal handshake on the app end...though personally I'd rather deal with something lighter...

H20nly I'm with you. The fact that ipad people like us are conditioned to think that something useful must come from an app is crazy. It shouldn't be an app. It should just be a damn folder!

But no, folders and files are so passe, we don't want to actually be able to store things efficiently and put them where we want! no, of course we want to have to duplicate our files all over the place for each app.

Thank you apple for deciding that folders to put files in are no longer relevant. It's worked well so far but time to change. While we're at it, let's get rid of pixels. We can just guess what's going on on the fucking screen. :x :x :x
