for me, this fear and lack of productivity is directly related to how much i don't understand about my gear.
i've been drumming for 15+ years and feel as comfortable doing it as anything else. i sit down at the kit everyday and it's fun and just part of my day. no problems there.
i move into my other room where there are 4 synths, a few drum machines, some rack gear that isn't always connected, etc. i could make sounds and combinations for every waking moment of the rest of my life. that's not fun. it doesn't even have anything to do with making music.
i know probably 90%+ of the sounds I can get out of a 4 piece kit. It's the same kit I've played for years and I really understand it. I know less than 1% of the sounds I can get out of the rest of my gear.
this is what i referred to in the 'starting a modular' thread. it's fun to shop but is it going to help output?
some reading on overcoming fear?

These are just simplified Pranayamic breathing exercises that work well.

try them before a session
I think tuning an instrument can be a form of meditation, I'm forced to obliterate outside noises and distractions, then as I get closer and closer to the pure vibration I'm trying for, body and mind chatter melt away and I feel more connected to sound.
