but I'd love to have a dual screen view for session(mixer) and arrangement.. ok the values of volume etc can be changed inside the arrange window, but it would be cooler to unlock the windows from each other (same w/midi-editor etc..)
in reason they implemented the "unlock seq from rack"-thing
what about live??
BUT also without this feature live is the best music software ever written..
in every way.
THANKS ABLETON
I'm very confused by this desire several folks have asked for it but the way Live functions changes made in arrangement are not reflected in Seesion (and I thought vise versa) so whats the benefit....?
Errr. Yes they are.

But when you have anything going in the arrange view, clips on tracks, automation, anything, and perform any changes in the session view, the arrange view data is temporarily overwritten. You can snap back to it by clicking the 'back to arrangement' button which'll light up red when applicable.

I'm totally knocked out by Live 4. I feel a little guilty asking for more but...

In a truly perfect world, Live would have a freestanding LFO midi effect module that could modulate some or all of the automatable parameters on a track, preferably with the ability to modulate multiple parameters at once. As if that weren't enough, the LFO speed would be controllable by another instance of the LFO as well. And it would would have a ton of waveshapes to choose from.

With follow actions and the existing midi effects in Live 4, it's really easy to set up somewhat "generative" sets that vary in structured ways. Adding these LFO's would push this possibility even further.

LFOs would be pretty sweet. especially if they synced to tempo. i've been absolutely mad for tempo-syncing effects lately...

mid editing

Post by knowa » Fri Jul 23, 2004 12:20 am

I also wish Live's midi editing capabilities were more like Cubase's old (3.7-5.1) midi editor (it might be the same in SX - never used it). What I'm describing may be standard in the other big DAW/sequencers, but Cubase is the only one I'm familiar with.

In Cubase there were a lot of key-based shortcuts that allowed you to select different notes in a sequence one at at a time and e.g. transpose them without touching the mouse. Very useful - with just the arrow and control keys I could quickly create a lot of variations on repeated melodic bits.

I realize that the first midi-capable version of Live hasn't even been released yet. I'm not complaining. Just saying that I hope to do some mouseless-midi editing in future versions of Live.

Return to where you started last when you hit the spacebar to stop previously. (as an option that you can select even after you started "<") So that if you hear something, an idea, you can go back to where you were exactly, while the idea is still in your head.

it would be fantastic if live would support biddule or vstack on a seperate pc - i have a laptop running live and a desktop with a creamware luna II card in.... with v4 i can midi up the creamware and route it back into my firewire 410 on the laptop - and also have a vsti coming out of the desktop from biddule going into live via the digital input and line ins.... all into the mixer on seperate channels - great...

but what would be better is if i could use my desktop as a virtual synth and effects rack - with multiple audio routing into ableton on the laptop - i guess this would connect via firewire or something i am not sure of the technology involved..

this would be great for composing large midi arrangements - and especially good for ppl with low powered pcs to share the load... once live hits 50% cpu load the interface starts to get sluggish to me
- and i would rather use another computer in sync than try to cram it all in on 1 machine..

missing features

Post by podprod » Fri Jul 23, 2004 9:39 pm

To me LIVE is still in development on the way to full potential..
Somewhat confused that we go to the trouble of adding midi then leave out a good many basic midi rules and features including changing time signatures within the piece ..the world is not always in 4/4 or 3/4 all the way through! If we import a general midi file with changing time ignatures live will not see those?
This is a big issue to me and anyone else in production who shares music with others!
Please! Help!

Post by nickw » Sat Jul 24, 2004 3:36 pm

to be able to send midi messages when an audio clip is triggered as well as when a midi clip is triggered (set in notes box of midi clip, not possible in an audio clip).

but, like i said, live4 is a fantastic upgrade.

cheers,

HERE's what we NEED:

1. Midi Mappable Delete: For those that loop on instruments live, this is essential. yeah you can do workarounds, but c',mon Ableton, this is essential for Live looping unless you never mmake misstakkes.

2. Buss view back. nuff said

3. Arranger I/O back. nuff said.

4. Ability to resize Session View tracks (not as big a deal now that we can hide sends but not the send knobs)

5. HOT CHICKS

Ok,

Now that I've been checking out Energy XT, I've gotta say that allowing midi output from VST's may be the most important for some people.

the only thing i want in the future is Ableton not to overload Live whit the enumerous features that people still ask,ask and ask, i love the way i think they are going and don´t wanna see Live turn some clone of Logic\cubase..

Midi Transpose. A sequencer basic. But, on live 4, if implemented properly, this would turn into a very powerful feature.

Hyper Threading-compatible Live 4!!! Thats the most important of all, i guess.. - not only for me, but everybody running HT miss this option - we have to run Live on 1 of the prosessors, and with Reason in rewiremode, it cracles no matter what you do - because of the HT-switching.. So that would be very nice!!
