Hopefully one day my tracks will be as intricate and complex as yours to be worthy of a Lemon- errr- Lemur. I may even buy a black turtle neck and an iPhone too. But for now I'll make do with my Nocturn.
This is the statement of a cheap ass who prefers to talk shit about how the expensive stuff is lame because he won't pony up for serious toys and chooses to be ignorant of their expanded capabilities. I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination but I have worked and saved for the things I want and yes, I have an iPhone as does my Mom, Dad, brother and a large percentage of my friends. Millions (yes MILLIONS) of people have them for a reason too... They are the best phones. Period. I'd be willing to bet your the type of person that steals music and uses cracked copies of almost everything because you fail to accept that it costs money to develop software and believe that, for some reason, you are entitled to free music, video, and software because someone else has stolen it and made it available to you.

I might have somewhat expensive gear (in Pro Gear terms at least) and a pretty nice studio but that is because I worked for it. I'm 26 and have been playing instruments since I was 6 years old although my electronic music experience has stretched only about the past 6 years. In those past 6 years my setup grew from a laptop and MIDI controller to a Quad processor Mac workstation with 30 and 20 inch monitors, Novation controllers, various Korg products, a Lemur, JBL LSR Series Monitors and Subwoofer, thousands of dollars in plugins, Terabytes of storage containing well over a hundred thousand samples, a Kore 2 controller, and more that I can't think of right now. The point of this is, never in the beginning when I couldn't afford better gear did I talk trash on the high end stuff. While I may not have been able to afford it then, I knew that quality comes at a price. Think about it... Can you buy a luxury sports car for the price of a Honda Civic? Or, more specific to the topic, can you buy a Manley Massive Mastering EQ for the price of a PreSonus? Thinking of it the other way, do you get the quality of the Manley by spending $5,000 less on a cheaper Mastering EQ? The answer is pretty damn obvious although I think you've already blatantly expressed your lack of ability to analyze the situation.

By calling it the APC'40' I hope they will do an...
APC64 with motorized faders and a small touchscreen like an iPhone.
> 8x8 pads/buttons
> Fadertastic
> mini touchscreen

The touchscren could have user creations from M4L.
Or use it for envelopes control...
Or use it for drawing Operator8 waveforms...

Just have BANKS of Controls for the Touchscreen.

I had a lemur for about a month and sold it.
LOVED it ... but its just too expensive for what it does.
... and I needed the money for an emergency plane ticket home.

I guess im just saying that making music and problems are universal ... but money isnt.

Good luck to you if you can balance them... :)

would a larger ipod touch make a viable alternative to a lemur?

Can someone tell me why the Lemur is at 50% off now?

Is there a new one coming out soon?

WHat is the deal!!!

Fair comparison indeed.

If all costs were equal, I'd take the APC40 and the bike over their respective competitors.

I'd much rather touch pads, knobs and faders than a screen. And it would take me forever getting to work in a submarine, given that I'm quite unfamiliar with the controls... and I hear they don't perform well on land.

Now you're getting pretty close to my ideal.

See, the problem I have is this. I really like the look of the Lemur, but I fear owning one would turn me into a show-off

You may not be able to buy a luxury sports car for the price of a Honda Civic, but both vehicles will get you from A to B.

As someone else said, there is no real comparison between an APC and a Lemur because...

1. Most importantly, the APC isn't available to try yet! It may be a bug-ridden heap of junk. I hope not, coz from the feature list I reckon I'd like one. But it's a bit previous to bank on it sorting out my future control of Live when I, and no one else, have been able to road test it.

2. The APC has been developed in conjunction with Ableton, and thus should offer a level of integration beyond any other controller.

3. The price, people, the price!

Well it probably was a silly question after all, but nevertheless I made up my mind.

Taking a look at Lo-Fi Massahkah's DyNAmic patch to satisfy me while I wait for it to get here.

Thanks to all for your thoughts.

You say 'show off' like it's a bad thing! What else you gonna do on stage?!

The lemur gets you attention, no doubt. It gives your average Joe the impression you're a musician from the future!

I can do with the lemur what the APC will do. However, the combination of the 2 will open up some interesting doors in terms of creativity. It's always been my ambition to be able to write tunes on the fly with a portable system, so I've been checking out the trolltouch slip cover for the 20' iMac.

Can you imagine the possiblities with a 20' touchscreen, a lemur, an APC40 and MfL?!

That's an easy one! Both. APC to fire clips, control macro's on devices etcetera.
Lemur to control synths and effects, Max patches, step sequencers.
Well this turned out to be the truth! Couldn't be happier with how well the APC40 integrates with Live, and now I can stop wasting time programming templates that let the Lemur do what the APC40 was designed to do. And now I can focus on using the Lemur strictly as an instrument. Killer combo! :D

THAT is what I'm talking about! So glad to hear that! Got a gig in not too long, hopefully I can round up my own APC-40 before then!

APC40 = sex with your wife/girlfriend
Lemur = sex with Neb's wife

That pretty much sums it up. Either get the job done but one. One is cheaper. One is more exciting.
