First turntable
Re: First turntable
yeah it's a 1200 mk2. there's a place to attach hinge covers on the back, whether or not they were there was just an assumption, maybe not.

Re: First turntable
I would also recommend patching it into your stereo system. If you have an aux input on your stereo, keep the output of the Art plugged into there when you're not in a "sampling" mode. This way you can kick back and listen to music without turning a computer on. It's one of life's sweetest pleasures.

the mk2 will take the hinges, they were most likely removed by a previous owner.
Re: First turntable
ok not done with my stupid questions, My ortofon cartridge came in the mail today and I put it on, but there's seems to be some space between the collar you tighten and the piece of the cartridge you stick into the tone arm
I don't see this gap in any of the video's I looked at, Is that' normal ?

did you turn and tighten the locking ring all the way? my ortofons (NB: bought a long time ago, design might have changed?) once fully tightened, have the metal ring of the cartridge tight against the front of the locking ring on the tone arm
Re: First turntable
so you know you're getting signal to the pre. troubleshoot from that pointcmreal04 wrote:And no sound!!!!! I can hear the record playing when I drop the needle, the pre shows its getting the signal, but no sound in Live or levels moving on the track.

nobody can help with that unless you post how you've got things set up
Re: First turntable
hey longjohns, thanks for chiming in.
well you were definitely right about the cartridge wasn't pushed all the way on, but still no sound. I have it hooked up as follows:
The turntable jacks going into the preamp line ins on the art dj pre II / the turntable is also grounded to the pre.
A dual rca to 1/4 inch cable running from preamp line out on the pre to the line ins on the back of my firebox interface.

Re: First turntable
is there some sort of software interface for the firebox, so that you can check the levels there
what are your settings in ableton

Re: First turntable
there's a software mixer, but it has no visual feedback, I'm taking the turntable down stairs real quick and try to use it with a receiver.
CM
I took the turntable down stairs and tested it, works great just hooked to the stereo receiver,so at least I know that much so far.

Re: First turntable
Ok so by process of elimination:
Turtable sounds like a champ just hooked to a regular receiver
I can hear the record when I drop the needle on it and I get visual feedback from the pre that it's getting the signal, but no sound from my monitors.
Soooo maybe a problem from the pre to the interface ? suggestions, comments, anything!!!!! ok I feel a little better.

Re: First turntable
it's just a matter of troubleshooting
check the cable
plug something else into the firebox and see if there's signal @ the computer
what are your settings in live

Re: First turntable
Not to sure what you mean by my settings in Live, but I'm going to start trouble shooting everything I can think of once I get out of work tomorrow, I'm off Sunday so I'll have ample time to try and get this figured out.I don't know what I expected, or if it's partly because of this cartridge I picked up (nothing to compare it to)but damn it sounds so good.
Could a long rca cable from interface to phono pre possibly be a problem to you think ?

Re: First turntable
no, or at least not the problem to start with.
look, you've already tested the turntable. it's fine.
you know you get signal to the pre.
move on from there, stop worrying about the turntable or cartridge.
can you get signal from the pre to the firebox
can you get signal from the firebox to your computer
can you get signal in ableton. that is "no" for now so you need to check ^^^those^^^
